From the Principal

Dear Killara Families,

Celebrating student success, preparing for camp, and striving for our personal best at the athletics carnival, are just some of the exciting learning experiences taking place at Killara.

Year 7 camp

Year 7 camp is fast approaching, and we can sense the excitement in the air. This is a wonderful opportunity for our Year 7 students to enjoy the company of their peers, and to engage in activities at the beautiful Narrabeen Sport and Recreation site. Camp will take place from Monday 28 March to Tuesday 29 March. Students are reminded to bring appropriate clothing, be sun safe and to show a growth mindset throughout this experience. We look forward to a rewarding camp experience in Week 10.

HSC High Achievers Celebration

On Thursday 24 March we welcomed our HSC 2021 all-round achievers and our HSC top achievers to our Year 12 assembly. This was a collective celebration of growth mindset, determination, and resilience. These high achieving Year 12 students received a trophy and were congratulated by our current Year 12 students. During the assembly, our former students answered questions and shared their HSC experiences with the audience.

Our 2021 Dux of the school was acknowledged at this assembly, and we congratulate Julia Seibel on this significant achievement. Julia is a wonderful young person, and we look forward to hearing about her future achievements. Julia was unable to attend this event, and the audience acknowledged her achievements through a cheerful applause.

A key characteristic that formed a common thread throughout this assembly was the importance of balancing school commitments with other activities like sports.

Athletics carnival

Our school athletics carnival took place this week at the Athletics Centre, Sydney Olympic Park. The weather was great, and our students were able to work towards their personal best on the field and across the track. The day was inspiring, with students working towards their personal best efforts. I thank Mrs Muller and Mrs Downes, along with our PDHPE faculty for their efforts in organising this event.

Building works

The scaffolding has been removed from across the main school blocks, and much of the roof maintenance work has been completed. The building work is now focused on the Kerrabee Centre, with the roof being enhanced in the Theatre and Hall.

Year 7 interim reports to be published on Friday 25 March

Year 7 Interim Reports will be released online to families on Friday 25 March. This interim report aims to provide a snapshot of how students have commenced their high school studies in Year 7.

Year 12 afternoon tea

On Friday 18 March we held a celebration for our Year 12 students from 2021. Year 12 students enjoyed the company of their friends and teachers, as they reminisced on a challenging and rewarding year. We are very proud of our students, and it was great to hear about their transition to post-school destinations.

134 direct early entry university offers

134 direct early university offers were made to our HSC class of 2021. This is an increase on my previous report, as more information has been shared since that time. This is a fantastic effort by a dedicated and diligent year group.

Boys’ knockout soccer

Congratulations to our open boys’ soccer team who won their match against Carlingford High School on Thursday 24 March.
