Celebration of Learning

Thanks to everyone who turned out for the Celebration of Learning last week. It was a night where the students took the lead and gave parents a snapshot of their learning journey. This included:

·             Students putting parents through their paces by asking them to complete a Big Write and then assessing the work on the VCOP pyramids, I am sure some parents went away with a few writing goals for the future.

·             Students showcasing a piece of work they are very proud of and highlighting the skills and knowledge that were required in order to complete it.

·             Students giving their parents a test on their knowledge of Shape and then assessing using some proficiency scales.

·             Students sharing with their parents and siblings some Maths Fluency games designed to improve number automaticity.

·             Students providing parents with a tour of their room to showcase the different learning centres that help them during the day.

Above all it was about the students talking about their learning, discussing their challenges and sharing goals for the future.

In addition we had the fabulous Visual Art display that showcased the work students have been completing with Mrs Noyce and Mrs Morgan this year. The focus has been on art in architecture and a number of Art installations can be seen around both campuses. These included:

·             The amazingly detailed cityscape that can be seen in the Meeting Room.

·             The colourful bag and box designed homes in the Prep corridor.

·             The self portraits from our younger students in the courtyard.

·             The 3D house models from Year 3 students in the Library.

·             The senior student scaled house models that can be seen in the BER.

·             The colourful Year 1 Lego house designs as seen in the Art Room.

So thank you to all that turned out and grabbed a sausage or a coffee from our hard working parents in the Café, it really highlighted how supportive our Buninyong PS community is.

What were our students thinking?

The Celebration of Learning made me feel excited because their were lots of things to see and I got to spend time with my mum.

Samual – Year 1

It was very colourful at the Celebration of Learning because everyone was celebrating the work they have done.

Declan – Year 2

The Celebration of Learning was really fun because my dad had to do a Big Write and he wrote about a cat. It was based on our cat. He also said he was a maths genius but he got a maths question wrong.

Sophie – Year 3

At the Celebration of Learning I was able to show my art house design to my parents, they loved it. I also was able to explain to my mum what vertices are and how we are learning about them in Maths.

Ivy – Year 5

I liked the Celebration of learning as I was able to show off all my amazing work to my parents and other family members. I particularly enjoyed showing my Solar Boat project, I think they were really impressed.

Koby – Year 6

Victorian Premiers Challenge

Congratulations to the following students who have completed the Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge for 2019. These students have read and logged the required number of books during the challenge period. They will receive a certificate signed by the Premier.  A huge congratulations to you all for the dedication and persistence to follow this challenge through and an extended thanks to parents for supporting their children to read and log the books online.

Bicycles For Humanity

The Bikes for Humanities cause is well underway and we are asking for donations of old or second hand bikes for the E.B.T students to fix up and send away to help children in Cambodia. We are collecting bikes on the last 3 days of the term, so please feel free to drop any and all bikes to the school.

Year 1 Mini Beast Projects

During Term 3 the Year 1’s have been exploring the features of mini beasts. Some of the essential questions that the students set out to answer were:

  • What are the parts of a mini beast?
  • How do mini beasts survive in their environment?
  • What is the diet of a mini beast?
  • What is the lifecycle of a mini beast?

As a conclusion, the students used the iPad app Spark to produce these informative videos.
