Week 6 Already?

Term 1 is always a time for seeing growth in the students … not merely heightwise, though many students do give us a surprise after a growth spurt over the Christmas break!

It’s growth in other ways that I notice. There is added confidence in the young ones coming into the Resource Centre and going through the new processes of greetings, returning and borrowing books, understanding the layout and expectations within the setting here. There is excitement and pride as students take on the project of reading and documenting books for the Premier’s Reading challenge.

And there is the social development that I see during the busy lunchtimes when many Primary school students come rushing in for their choice of activity here. Resources have to be shared. Time is short and the bell seems to ring too early for some as they launch themselves into making things, solving puzzles or playing games but it’s the students themselves  that make it all work … with lots of sharing and co-operation throughout the various activities.

Last week I needed to finish the weaving session in the Fishbowl space and have it extra tidy for visitors coming later in the day.  Children were filing out and I was putting things away.  Then I turned back to the fishbowl. It looked immaculate … no scraps of wool, chairs in place, weaving looms stacked neatly on a bench. Two proud girls, who must have worked like whirlwinds, were standing there smiling … I’d like to give a very special thank you to Keely and Emerson for giving me such a lovely surprise!

Happy reading, everyone.
