A New Year

Welcome back to 2020. I pray that the Christmas break was one of restoration and celebration. The first two weeks have given teachers and staff a chance to meet parents at the Acquaintance Night and the Laptop Rollout Night. Teachers have also had the opportunity to get to know their students.

As we started the new year the teachers had the opportunity to revisit the RISE principals, (Respect, Integrity Service and Excellence), with the students. Throughout the year the staff will take the opportunity to look at these principles in more depth. Staff and students will also explore what it means to be a Tyndalian. As we embark on this year as a community, I pray everyone comes to know the embrace of the Tyndalian community.

Year 7s and 8s have been at camp this week and it has been a shining example of what it is to be a Tyndalian and a part of this community.

God Bless,

Nick Simons

Year 11 & 12 Orientation

Day 1 of Week 1 saw all our Year 11s and 12s in Orientation. As SACE students we were able to take them through relevant SACE information for the year and ethical research with some reminders about how to reference for SACE. The Year 12s had a session with Mrs Elona Koop, one of our counsellors who talked them through some strategies for success in Year 12. Orientation was a great opportunity for Year 11s and 12s to get to know each other and prepare for the year ahead.

We’ve welcomed the Year 7s into the Secondary School. It’s been such a blessing to get to know them and see them settling into the routines of secondary school.

Student Leadership

Student Leader inductions were held on the first day of school, taking the opportunity to pray and worship together. Students considered how we can further practice our school values of; Intentionally Christian, Intentionally Inclusive and Intentionally Excellent, Lifelong Learning, Community, RISE, Wellbeing and Pastoral Care. Together they developed a vision for the year and look forward to working together as they outwork it.

Swimming Carnival

Students nominated for events in our Swimming Carnival this week and we look forward to seeing the Houses compete in Week 4. Any students who haven’t returned their Aquatics form, will need to do so even if they’re not competing.

Workplace Practices

This semester Year 10s are completing Stage 1 Workplace Practices, which includes a work experience. Students received information last year about the requirements for their placement and are busily approaching workplaces to request placements. Please pray for them as they do so. It’s a wonderful experience and really helps students formulate their thinking about pathways.

Looking for a Tutor?

We are often asked by parents for contact details of anyone we know that provides Secondary School tutoring. Just this week we received information from Bonnie Edgecomb, a newly arrived resident to Strathalbyn with her husband Matthew who is the new pastor at the local Lutheran Church.

Bonnie is a teacher/tutor offering high school tutoring to students in Strathalbyn and surrounding areas, particularly in the area of Senior English, Research Project and HASS, along with other Middle School subjects.

If you are interested in this service, please feel free to make contact with Bonnie via the details here.
