Principal's message

Dear Parents and Carers

Earlier this month our grade 6 families received notification of their government secondary school placement for year 7 in 2020. The table below shows the secondary schools our current grade 6 students will be attending in 2020.  It is important that in the year prior to your child/ren commencing year 6 that you participate in the Open Days offered by the secondary schools so that you are familiar with their curriculum and entry requirements.  Open Day information for secondary schools is usually listed on their website during term 1.

SCHOOL COUNCIL ACTIVITIES

This term the School Council has organised two school events: the Annual School Raffle and the Community Bush Dance.  Both events received amazing support from the school community with the raffle raising $12 290 and whilst the Bush Dance is a community-building event, it raised $3530 for the school.  Thank you to the parents and staff who were involved in making these events happen.  These funds are allocated to improving curriculum areas such as updating home reading resources, expanding our Foundation reading program into year 1 and ensuring our teacher resources are in line with current pedagogical practices.

We look forward to seeing you at the Trivia night on Saturday 7th September.

A reminder that if you are looking to get involved in the organisation of school activities, please email Brian Bird, our School Council President at chps_schoolcouncil@cliftonhillps.vic.edu.au.

BUILDING AND GROUNDS UPDATE

PREP COURTYARD

The tender process has closed and we received one tender for the scope of works for the prep courtyard re-development.  We are now working through the design with the architect and builder to ensure the best possible outcome for the school.  By the end of this term, we hope to be able to provide you with more details about this project and when the work will commence.

ALL ABILITIES PLAY SPACE

The Buildings and Grounds Committee is assessing four submissions for this project.  We are working closely with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) to ensure we meet their requirements along with the original brief we provided to receive this funding.

SCHOOL EXPANSION PROJECT (SAMBELL LODGE)

On July 30th, school representatives including Brian Bird, our School Council president, were involved in interviewing three architectural firms nominated by the VSBA as candidates for the planning phase of the school expansion project on the current Sambell Lodge site.  The successful firm was Jackson Clements Burrows.  They will now begin working with the school to develop a master plan to address our future needs and prepare design options for the Sambell Lodge site.  We look forward to working with Jackson Clements Burrows on this exciting project for our school.

CURRICULUM DAY

On Monday 26th August, staff will be participating in a professional development day focusing on spelling pedagogy.  We will be looking at the introduction of a structured synthetic phonics and word study program across the school.  A reminder that this is a student-free day.  We look forward to updating you on this in upcoming newsletters.

Regards
