Japanese Report
Konnichi Wa!
こんいちわ!
What a fantastic year we have had this year in our first year of Japanese! All students have enjoyed learning a new language and have all enthusiastically made some great progress.
This term we have been examining different topics through some Japanese stories with all grades also presenting their finished work.
Preps examined colours and animals by making hand puppets for the picture story book, ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ (kuma san, kuma san, nani mite runo?). They acted out the scenes from the book using their puppets.
Bear (kuma)
Bird (tori)
Duck (ahiru)
Horse (uma)
Frog (kaeru)
Cat (neko)
Dog (inu)
Sheep (hitsuji)
Goldfish (kingyo)
Grade 4 students examined four different Japanese folktales and worked in small groups to rehearse and perform plays in front of the rest of the class. Students learnt about Japanese legends and popular stories told to Japanese children.
Grade 5 students examined the story of Hachiko (a true story of a loyal dog) by working in small groups to write a script, create puppets and props, and perform a puppet show for their buddy grade.
Grade 6 students examined the true story of ‘Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes’ by researching a number of themes and topics related to the bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima in World War 2.
Looking forward to another great year of Japanese in the new year. Have a great holiday!
