Doctors in Secondary Schools

Remember our doctor’s room is open every Tuesday from 10am–3pm for secondary students.  Student appointments can be made through staff at the school or by calling the Merbein Family Practice on 03 5025 2511 or students can simply drop into the rooms at recess or lunch on Tuesdays. This is a great service, not just when students are sick but for things like prescriptions, asthma and anaphylaxis plans, catch-up immunisations, mental health and any other issues facing secondary students.  Students will need to give their Medicare Card details to the GP clinic.  An easy way to do this is for the student to take a photo of the card on their phone.  Parents do not need to attend appointments with students but are very welcome to come along if the students wish.

China Visit Report

S. Johnson

Last week our college secondary section welcomed ten students and three teachers from Dali Number 1 Middle school in China.  The program is celebrating its tenth year of exchange with students arriving at Mildura airport to a windy and dusty Mildura day on Saturday 10th of August.  Our visitors were welcomed into the homes of our host families and spent the week touring around the district and attending school excursions and classes at Merbein P-10 College.  Visits to the Perry Sand Hills, a ride along the Mighty Murray River on a traditional Paddle Steamer were highlights of the week in addition to the time spent in the school elective programs of Plastics and Food.  Our visiting students sang at our assembly and presented their research projects to the Year 4-6 students sharing the differences they found with Australian life, landscapes and families.  After a huge week the students reluctantly boarded the plane to Melbourne on Sunday for the last stage of their Aussie adventure.  Our combined Sunraysia schools group will depart, bound for Dali on the 12th September, knowing we will have a warm Chinese welcome awaiting and seventeen days ahead to learn about the rich Chinese culture, family life and schooling at our sister school.  A big thank you to all our host families, the visiting students spoke highly about the welcoming feeling they had on their stay in Merbein, we trust you enjoyed the experience as much as they did.
