Why is there always a Jigsaw Puzzle out in the Killester Library?

Aside from the fact that jigsaw puzzles are fun and a great activity to bond with others, there are proven educational benefits to jigsaw puzzles. These include:

Jigsaw puzzles exercise the left and right sides of your brain at once.

Jigsaw puzzles improve your short-term memory.

Jigsaw puzzles improve your visual-spatial reasoning.

Jigsaw puzzles are a great meditation tool and stress reliever.

Jigsaw puzzles are a great way to connect with others.

Jigsaw puzzles are also great for some alone time.

You’ll live longer,  and better if you puzzle regularly. Puzzling stimulates the brain and actually wards off the plaque that is the marker of Alzheimer’s, according to a recent study published in the Archives of Neurology. The study compared brain scans of 75-year-olds to 25-year-olds. The elderly people who did puzzles regularly had brain scans comparable to the 25-year-olds.

And that is why we have a new jigsaw puzzle each week for all the girls to share in.
