Sports Report

Good afternoon everyone,

Hope this newsletter finds you all fit and well! Great to be able to inform you of some amazing achievements produced over the course of this term from our very talented Cobram AGS sports people. Most of these have been school-related so we will kick-start with those.

Last Friday, 10th May, 14 students from our Year 3-6 cohort travelled to Shepparton to participate in the 2019 Goulburn-Murray Division Cross-country. On what started as a pretty dreary day ended up being one perfect for distance running. All the students gave their all in producing admirable performances and we had 5 students finish in the top 20 of their respective age groups (top 15 through to Hume Region event in June): 3rd Savannah Zoch (12/13 Girls 3km); 5th Tennille Kautai (9/10 Girls 2 km); 6th Casey Chandler (9/10 Girls 2km); 17th Jaidyn White (9/10 Boys 2km) and 19th Bella Pardy (11 Girls 3km). Well done to all our participants and many thanks to the parents/grandparents, who came along to support their child/ members of the squad.

We have had a number of our Year 5/6 students trial for School Sports Victoria winter sports and a number of them have succeeded in making Hume Region squads, which puts them on the cusp of STATE SELECTION! They will now vie for a spot in the Victorian Country squads and, if selected, compete with their metropolitan counter-parts for the Victorian team. What a fantastic effort and achievement from the following students:

Mackenzie O’Dwyer: Netball

Sam Trembath: AFL

Sonny Rowe: Boys’ soccer

Bella Pardy, Helena Zito: Girls’ soccer

Zahlia Kautai: Touch football

We wish them all the very best in their endeavours!!!

Three of our Year 5/6 girls, Charlotte Dickins, Ava Morgan-Trease and Sarah Stone, participated in a school equestrian event hosted by Scots College in Albury. Through their individual performances in a number of disciplines over 2 days, the girls did amazingly both individually and as a team, where they finished in 5th place. This was achieved against other Primary and Secondary aged students.

The biggest news for the month was that of Teagan Wilkin-Thom, who is an accomplished motocross rider. A couple of weeks ago, Teagan headed down to Maffra and participated in the 2019 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships. After a couple of gruelling days racing, Teagan finished in FIRST PLACE AND IS NOW THE 2019 VICTORIAN JUNIOR MOTOCROSS CHAMPION!!!! Unbelievable! Congratulations to her on reaching this level of success!!! All the best for your future racing!

As you can see, absolutely outstanding accomplishments from our very talented athletes! Go Team Cobram AGS!!!
