Foundation News

Welcome back to term 2! It has been pleasing to see all the students settling back into their school routines so beautifully. Our first week back ended on a high note with the celebration of Grandparents and Special Friends Day. The student were very excited to share their classroom with their grandparents and visitors and enjoyed a craft activity. It was a very successful morning.

Last week in Literacy we continued our study on the word ‘dog’. This week’s new word is ‘jam’ with the introduction of two new letters, j & m. After that we will learn the word ‘hand’ with the introduction of the letter ‘h’ followed by the word ‘frog’ in week 4 with f & r being the  two new letters introduced. We have loved seeing the excitement and commitment the students have shown towards learning their M100W words. We will continue to send these word lists home for students to work on. We do suggest re visiting older lists with your children to ensure they continue to show confidence in the identification of all words previously learnt.

In mathematics, we will continue our focus on the numbers 1-20. With these numbers, students will work on ordering them and counting collections of objects around 20. They will also focus on counting forwards and backwards, starting at any number.

In humanities, we will be introducing our new topic that is focused on ‘Our Community’. Throughout this topic students will explore the community around them and identify places in which they live and belong. They will also look at how they are able to help keep the community clean and a nice place to live.

We would like to say a very big thank you to Natasha, Jackie and Melina and who gave up their time to come and share their special cultural celebrations. The children loved it and learnt a lot about the way other cultures celebrate.

Student Achievements

Over the last few months Georgia had some State Trials competitions to qualify for the State Team of Victoria.

Over the holidays Georgia participated at the Senior State Victorian Gymnastics Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics and came 3rd overall, which qualifies Georgia for the State Team. (Also the youngest competitor in the team of 6)

She will now be representing Victoria at the Australian Gymnastics Championships in May-June at Melbourne Arena.

Well done Georgia!! We wish all the best at the Australian Champs and look forward to hearing how you go.
