Music Notes

Host Brian Nankervis at Quizzys

Quizzys

by Karoline Kuti, Music Coordinator and teacher of Music 7-12

The atmosphere at our recent quiz night can only be described as joyous. Parents, teachers and students dressed up, representative of TV themes, and joined forces to battle it out.

The laughter rolled in as host Brian Nankervis kept the jokes coming. Performances from our talented music students Sam Wood, Amelie Justin, Acorn, Allegra and Stella Holmes a Court, Audrey Robinson, Greta Lynch, Mila Goren-Chrico, Leila Edelstein and Abbie Andrews filled the room.

The night ran smoothly with the wonderful help of CAS students in Years 11 and 12. The questions were designed and prepared by students from as young as five right up to our Year 12s.

The night was a fun celebration of our beautiful Preshil community, as well as raising valuable funds to improve the sound and lighting of the Kevin Borland Hall at Arlington; conclusion… the 2020 quiz night is one not to be missed!

Afternoon delights: "soirées" in June

Students in our Instrumental Music program are encouraged to join us one afternoon after school to play their particular instrument of study and listen to others doing likewise.

These half-hour sessions are a great opportunity for them to practise performing in front of a small audience as well as to hear others of varying ages, levels of ability and experience who are also studying that instrument, or one from the same family group.

We extend a warm invitation to our music parents and friends to join us at these instrument-specific sessions, held on the following dates:

Tuesday 11 June from 3.30 – 4pm

in the Kevin Borland Hall at Arlington

Keys to Keys (piano)

Wednesday 12 June from 3.30 – 4pm

in the Senior Music Room

Drum Attack (drums and percussion kit)

Thursday 13 June from 3.30 – 4.30pm

Tuesday 18 June from 3.30 – 4pm

Heavenly Voices (voice)... please note new date.

Wednesday 19 June from 3.30 – 4pm

What is open mic?

These half-hour performance sessions are open to students across both campuses. They are held in either the Kevin Borland Hall at Arlington or The Blackbox theatre at the Secondary School. A great opportunity for students to gain performance experience, these low-key sessions are usually held before school and are a fun and very supportive way in building confidence.

Deadline coming up!

Please be reminded that enrolment in the Instrumental Music Program is considered ongoing from one term to the next, unless four weeks’ written notice (in term time) is given to the office.

If your child does not wish to continue lessons in Term 3, please email judy.o’donnell@preshil.vic.edu.au by Monday 27 May. Thank you.
