Automotive Design Presentation

Automotive Design Presentation with Toyota

On Tuesday 4th December, 25 lucky students had a talk from Toyota representatives on car design.

We had Nic, head Creative Designer, and Cameron, a Studio Engineer, give a fantastic presentation that included how cars are designed, Toyota's role in innovative technology and a drawing exercise. Students saw how the design process they use in Art and Technology subjects is vital in creating cars of the future.

As a surprise to students, we organised small clay models of cars (using automotive clay, which is very different to the clay we use at school) for students to sculpt. These clay models are used towards the end of the design process to help designers and engineers visualise what the final product may look like. Our students made small-scale models, but in real life they can be as big as a real car!

We were blown away with how our students were so engaged with the presentation. You could hear a pin drop! As you can see from the photos, Nic was not just flattering us when he said our students adapted to the sculpting far better than some adults he's taught! Well done to all the budding car designers who participated in our incursion. We are so happy you got to have such an amazing experience.
