being eSmart in drama

Smart. Safe. Responsible.

Embedding eSmart in education.

BSC promotes and embeds smart, safe and responsible use of technology throughout the curriculum and social community.

The eSmart program supports schools  to embrace the benefits of technology while reducing childrens’ exposure to cyber risks, such as cyber bullying or identity theft and fraud. As an incentive, schools can enter competitions to showcase their work in this area - and this is what our Year 10 Drama class chose to do.

The group concentrated on producing a dramatic piece  that could effectively promote cyber safe messages, performing it in front of a parent audience. Each scene was written, directed and performed by the Year 10 students. Over the course of an hour, students communicated the importance of cyber safety through cautionary messages but also humour. The performances were very well received by all who attended.

The class' efforts earned them a well-deserved first prize in the Term 2 competition - congratulations!

Year 10

For this drama performance, we were tasked to write and act out a series of sketches with the theme of social media. Most ideas for sketches were improvised at the beginning stage after we were given a prompt. Later we refined and scripted them. My favourite scenes were the Kick-Starter scenes. Throughout the show, strange products are pitched in a comedic way.

I think the most important message from this project is that social media has its benefits and its drawbacks.  The show left the audience to draw their own conclusions based on their own circumstances

Year 10

I really enjoyed doing the performance for Year 10 drama this year.

The best part was how the we got to write the show ourselves, and to incorporate all of our own ideas. We wrote largely from our own experience but also incorporated ideas from articles we'd read and stories we'd heard about social media and cybersafety. Not only did we end up learning about how to script, but we also got to express our thoughts about the impact of social media on our own lives. We explored catfishing, kickstarters, procrastination - and everything in between.

For any budding Year 9 actors, I would highly recommend picking drama in Year 10!
