Principal

Welcome to Term 3.  What a start we had with the outstanding production of Oliver.  Congratulations once again to all involved and thank you to the school community for their support.   Year 12 students, their guests and teachers have also enjoyed a positive and inclusive Year 12 Formal.  Year 12 Formals continue to be a highlight of the Year 12 year at Brunswick Secondary College. Thank you to the organising committee, led by School Captains,  Antonio and Isabelle and to Michael Bartley, Year 12 Coordinator, for their great work.

This term will see a strong focus on future pathways with a number of COGS presentations to students and parent information sessions relating to subject selections for next year.  We are pleased to welcome our new careers counsellor, Sam De Silva, who has already commenced meeting with every Year 12 student to support them with their VTAC applications.  This has been the perfect way for Sam to get to know students and students have walked away from their meetings well-armed with information on possible courses and job opportunities for 2019.  Sam will also provide guidance to students in Year 9 and 10 as they consider electives, early start VCE and VCE or VCAL options for Year 11.

Our new Food classrooms, Theatre, Canteen and  D Block classrooms are now being fully utilised and enjoyed by students and teachers.  The next stage of building works to be completed will be the North side of D block which is more teaching spaces for the Performing Arts and the Science Rooms in F Block.  We hope to have the use of these areas within 4-6 weeks.  The end-point is in sight with the central area of F block now demolished and ready for the reconfiguration of rooms.

I have placed on Newsfeed and repeat later in this Newsletter an invitation for parents to participate in a feedback forum as part of our School Review process. I am hoping we will fill the sixty spaces available to parents.  Staff and students will also have the opportunity to provide feedback for the purpose of writing our next Strategic Plan.   The Department of Education and Training appoint a School Reviewer to work with the school and we will be working with Barry Sonaghan from  Ed Solutions.  We look forward to working with Barry through the review process where we reflect on school successes over the past four years and decide on the continued or new foci for the next four years.
