After our VCE Information Night last week, our Year 10 and 11 students are in the process of selecting subjects for next year. All subject preference forms are to be signed and returned to the School Office by the end of the term. Copies of the forms are attached to this newsletter.
Early next term, VCE students will have subject selection interviews, which will involve discussions about the suitability of their preferred course in terms of their study and their future pathways. Parents will also receive an invitation to attend these meetings.
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Monday, 15 July from 2.30 to 8.30pm. Parents will be invited to make bookings for interviews when the Semester One Reports are released via PAM at the end of the term.
An information session will also be held on for parents of current Year 10 students, which will involve a guest speaker discussing the results from the Morrisby Careers testing that our Year 10s completed earlier in the term. This session will take place on Monday, 15 July in the Simons Auditorium from 5.40 to 6.10 pm.
The Australian History Competition was undertaken this week by our largest contingent of students thus far. On the back of such incredible national success last year by Euan Sutherland, we enrolled 64 students to undertake the test this year. These students are nominated by their teachers.
The tests are quite varied in testing material, covering some of the information from the national curriculum, and some from general knowledge. The questions relate to given source material. The test itself is multiple choice in format but does require a good dose of interpretation and analysis.
The results fed back to us from the test are very specific about skill levels across the cohort and give us targets for improvements and explicit teaching in the future. It is a great indicator of the level of skill within our group of selected students, who are given this test as an extension opportunity. It usually takes us a while to receive the results; certificates of note will be awarded in a later assembly.
