Year Six Camp Brownlow Medals

Congratulations to Ava Mould and Max Hindhaugh on receiving the girls’ and boys’ Year Six ‘Camp Brownlow’ medals for 2019. The Year Six students, teachers and Auscamp staff voted for the students who best upheld the College values of resilience, optimism, respect, compassion and gratitude on the recent three day trip to Mount Arapiles. At the conclusion of a testing three days in challenging conditions, votes were tabulated. Both Ava and Max were terrific ambassadors for the school and deserved winners.

There will be an opportunity for parents to meet and discuss the half year report with Junior School teachers in Week Three of next term.

Ever wondered what could be done with those little hard plastic bread tags?

Bread tags come in many shapes, sizes and colors. Made of High Impact Polystyrene they have a good recycling value. It takes 200 bread bags full of tags that are packed into 10 black bags or 200 kg of tags to bring in enough money to buy one wheelchair.

Mary Honeybun founded the organization in 2006 in Cape Town and they provide 2 to 3 wheelchairs to adults and children around South Africa every month!! Having a wheelchair gives the recipient independence and mobility and this makes a big difference to their families as well.

Now we are collecting in Australia too!

Collecting bread tags, even broken ones, makes a difference to our environment too as they are recycled into seedling trays, picture frames, coat hangers and other items.

What can you do??

It’s easy…. Save your bread tags for a while and then drop them off to school in the specially marked collection bottles. Ask your family and friends to get involved too!

We are going to have a little competition to see which House can save the most tags.

Will it be Young, Berry, Learmonth or Laidlaw?

Special thanks to Baker’s Delight (Target Centre) in Warrnambool for supporting this great idea and bringing awareness.

Hockey

The College Division 5 team was defeated 1-0 in their match against Coleraine Red. Amelia Bradbeer starred in defence, and was ably support by Phoebe Alexander and Maggie Mercer. The team is improving with every match.

College Tassie Devils defeated Coleraine 5-1 in an impressive outing. The 3-0 halftime score was a good indication of their dominance. Indi Ross played a great match at fullback, Harry Mercer was a constant threat in the midfield and Dougal White played a super match on the right wing.

College Bandicoots and College Drop Bears played out an enthralling 3-3 draw. Bandicoots led 2-1 at half time, with two goals to Ciaran Nelson. The second half ebbed and flowed, with both teams attacking at every opportunity. Best for Drop Bears were Harry Austin, Chloe Laidlaw, Charlie Hawthorne and Hugh Stratmann. Bandicoots were best served by goalie Jake Butcher, Skye Headlam, Fingal Jackson and Will Baker.
