Year 9 Experience program

Welcome to the 2019

Year 9 Experience Program!

Melbourne City program (3 days)

Melbourne is a great city and we have developed a three-day program to help you discover what it has to offer.  You will have the opportunity to explore and learn about our vibrant city in a challenging and authentic learning environment.

Melbourne Polytechnic Automata Program (2 days)

Melbourne Polytechnic will lead you on a two-day program where you will combine creativity with science, engineering and technology to design an animated mechanical toy.

The Automata program at Melbourne Polytechnic will help you to:

  • Experience science and technology in a hands-on, immersive environment
  • Think about and experience further educational settings
  • Challenge yourself to think outside the box
  • Work effectively in a team
  • Develop an understanding of the design and innovation process

Your experiences in the city will help you to:

  • Become an independent learner
  • Develop new skills and responsibilities
  • Become more confident and independent
  • Navigate the city and public transport
  • Develop initiative
  • Enhance social awareness
  • Investigate the diversity of the city’s lifestyle and culture
  • Recognise problems and opportunities in the city

General Information

  • All students are required to attend the year 9 Experience week in full school uniform, not sports uniform.
  • If not attending City week then students are expected to attend school as usual where they will be given an inquiry based task
  • Students on certain days will be making their own way into the City and home from the City please make sure you think about School buses if being collected from school

Food/Drinks/Money

  • Automata (Melbourne Polytechnic) – you will need to bring your own snack, lunch and water bottle as there will be no opportunity to purchase food or drinks here on the day.  You will not need any money as there will be no opportunity to make any purchases.
  • City – you may bring your own snack, lunch and drinks or bring money to purchase your own.

It is a fantastic opportunity and students should be embracing the experiences.

Our goal is for all students to have a safe, enjoyable learning experience.
