Principal's Report

New Uniform 2020

In our August newsletter we formally announced that Greensborough College is introducing a new school uniform for 2020. To reiterate,  highlights of that newsletter item include:

The new uniform meets the purposes of a dress code, including:

  • Promoting students’ sense of identity with and pride in the school
  • Allowing all students to feel equal (Equality is one of our core values)
  • Promoting cohesion and good order in the school which leads to students feeling safe and secure
  • Ensuring the students’ appearance reflects the expectations of our community
  • Enhancing the profile and image of our school within the community

The new uniform has been designed as a “wardrobe”, so students can choose to wear the items that suit their individual needs around comfortability, appearance and warmth.  It is a gender neutral uniform that allows all students the choice of garments to wear. There is an Academic Uniform and a Sports Uniform.  The soft shell jacket (not shown in photos) can be worn with both the Academic and Sports Uniform.

The other new features are the colours of navy, light blue and grey and the inclusion of the soft shell jacket and cardigan.

We will have one supplier, Noone Imagewear. There is a new shop on the school site which is now open. There will be a process for on line ordering. Further information will be communicated to families about this via COMPASS.

All Year 7 students and any new students enrolled in the school from 2020, will be required to wear the new school uniform.

The phasing-in period is two years for the rest of the school. This means that in 2022 all students at Greensborough College will be required to wear the new uniform.

For current students the following information is important:

  • There is no mixing of new uniform with current (old) uniform
  • The only exception is the Soft Shell Jacket, which may be worn with the current uniform
  • Students may wear the new PE uniform, and/or, the new Academic uniform, but again the items are not to be a mixture of new PE and current PE/new Academic and current Academic.
  • From 2020 the only accessories that all students can wear are the College branded items purchased from the uniform supplier. These items are the College scarf, the College hat and the College beanie.  These items all have the College logo on them.
  • Please note that accessories are optional parts of the College uniform so if students choose to wear them then they must be the College branded items.  All other non-branded items are not allowed.

A letter will be sent to families via COMPASS with this and other information for their perusal.

MOBILE PHONE – MINISTERIAL ORDER MANDATED FROM JANUARY 28TH 2020

In accordance with the Ministerial Policy issued by the Minister for Education under section 5.2.1 (2)(b) of the Education Reform Act 2016 to all Victorian Government Schools, commencing in 2020, students, if students choose to bring a mobile phone or similar device to school, they  will be required to store them in their locker from the start of the school day until the final bell.

Greensborough College provides a lockable locker for every student and student.

There will be only a few exceptions that are documented in an individual student’s personal medical documents and/or Individual Learning Plans. Sanctions will apply for any breach of the rules.  In case of emergency families can contact the office.

The School Community will receive the complete policy shortly and students will receive education about the policy during early commencement. Information will be sent via COMPASS.

We ask families to start these discussions at home about mobile phone use and how students and families will work with the College to seamlessly implement this government directive.
