Blackout Poetry

Have you seen or heard about blockout poetry? By blacking out unwanted words and images from an already existing text you can create a brand new piece of art/poetry. Students are invited to come into the Library during Tuesday lunchtimes to have a go and maybe join the Thoughts on Paper group – all materials are provided. The launch in the Library on Tuesday 30/04/2019 was well attended and already students are producing some great work. I hope some of the students will let me display their work for everyone to see!

Turn over a New Leaf – Competition closes 24th of May.

There is still time to be in the running to win a $10 Orchard voucher.  Simply write down the name of the staff member you think is behind each of the ten Autumn leaves in the Library, then place your form into the red entry box. Good luck!

Reading for pleasure

“I don’t like reading”, “I don’t have enough time”, “I already have to read X”…There are many reasons why a person may not read as much as they used to but studies have shown that reading (both fiction and non-fiction) more regularly can improve education results, mental health and empathy. The secret is to find books/texts that you want to read, because we all tend to find time to do things that we like. Let a member of the Library staff give you some ideas on what to read (it doesn’t have to be a hard read, just enjoyable), or try reading more regularly (but in smaller chunks), or explore things about your favourite hobby/interest. Turn over a new leaf!
