Uniform and Grooming Check

During assembly on Wednesday students will be informed that a uniform and grooming check will take place during Pastoral group time next Monday morning, 6 February. This will include the new College formal hat, blue broad brim hat along with haircut standards.

Pastoral leaders will collate the information and be contacting parents if problems are identified.

 

A reminder that the new College formal hat is a compulsory uniform item.

New Staff – Counselling Team

Term 1 ASH Wellbeing Program

This term the focus areas in the College Ash program are highlighted below. 

 

Year 5: Resilience

 Students learn the importance of being resilient during life’s ups and downs. Strategies to ‘bounce back’ from difficult times are investigated during the unit. Topics include what is resilience? Building self-esteem, recognising strengths.

 

Year 6: Teamwork

Students will learn the benefits of working together to achieve a common goal. They will create scenarios to encourage teamwork at Marist College. Topics include what is teamwork, there is no ‘I’ in team, what does great teamwork look like?

 

Year 7: Transition program

To facilitate a successful transition to Marist College Ashgrove so all students feel safe and valued. Topics include getting along with others, organisation and study skills, Year 7 camp.

 

Year 8: Character Strengths

Students to identify their unique character strengths and to use these when faced with life obstacles. Topics include identifying character strengths, character matters, respect, act courageously.

 

Year 9: The adolescent brain

Students to understand the key changes that occur in the adolescent brain and the anxious brain. Students to prepare for NAPLAN. Topics include the adolescent and the anxious brain.

 

Year 10: Masculinity

Students to challenge the stereotypes of masculinity and develop a sense of who they want to be as men. Topics include toxic masculinity, becoming a Marist man, character strengths and values.

 

Year 11: Act the man program

To further enhance their understanding of masculinity, respectful relationships and consent.  To ensure a smooth transition into the ATAR system. Topics include breaking stereotypes, respecting woman, consent presentation.

 

Year 12: Healthy mind and body.

To provide students with strategies to manage their mental health and enhance sleep quality. Topics include managing stress, mental health, looking after each other

Marist SchoolTV

The College pays a subscription to SchoolTV, an online organisation that aims to help parents to raise happy, well and resilient young people.

 

Articles in SchoolTV are organised into series eg cybersafety, mental health, school survival, positive parenting, healthy body and boarding school. Each month the organisation creates a topical special report which are archived.
