Music News- Week 1

Ensemble Auditions

Auditions for the College’s Music Ensembles take place during Week 2 (Monday 6 – Friday 10 February). All students taking lessons on instruments – whether through the College Music Program or externally – and with a passion for singing are encouraged to audition. Details are listed below; please contact ensemble directors for further information or with queries.

 

Wind Band, Concert Band and Swing Band Auditions

  • Students: All secondary flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, bass guitar and drum kit/percussion players taking or enrolled in instrumental lessons.
  • Date: Monday 6 and Thursday 9 February
  • Time and Location: 7:30am – 8:30am, Performing Arts Centre – Band Room
  • Audition Requirements: a short passage of any piece previously learned. A sign-up sheet is located in the Music Office (Performing Arts Centre). Membership of Swing Bands is contingent on participation in Wind and/or Concert Band.

Wanju Voices Sign-Ups

  • Students: All Years 4 – 6 students who have a love of singing.
  • Date: Monday 6 February
  • Time and Location: 7:30am – 8:30am, Osborne Room.

Chamber Orchestra Auditions

  • Students: all secondary violin, viola, cello and double bass players taking or enrolled in instrumental lessons.
  • Date: Wednesday 8 February
  • Time and Location: 7:00am – 8:30am, Osborne Room
  • Audition Requirements: students are asked to play a set extract, available from the Music Office. It is not expected that all students will master the extract and are only asked to play to the best of their ability. A sign-up sheet is located in the Music Office (Performing Arts Centre).

Treble Choir Auditions

  • Students: all Years 7 – 9 students with a love of singing.
  • Date: Wednesday 8 February
  • Time and Location: 3:15pm – 4:30pm, Gonzaga Barry Lecture Theatre
  • Audition Requirements: students are asked to sing a verse or chorus of any song. Auditions are conducted in pairs.

Primary Singers Sign-Ups

  • Students: All Years 2 – 3 students who have a love of singing.
  • Date: Thursday 9 February
  • Time and Location: 8am, Osborne Room

Chapel Choir Sign-Ups

  • Students: All Years 1 – 12 students who have a love of singing.
  • Date: Friday 17 February
  • Time and Location: 7:30am, Chapel

Ensemble Commencement

Ensemble directors will contact students in coming weeks with details of rehearsal commencement, performance uniforms, concert dates and commitment contracts.

Enrolment in Music Lessons

To enroll in individual music lessons for all instruments and in voice, please use the following application form: Music Lesson Application Form.

 

Please note that some instruments make have a waiting list based on tutor availability.

Withdrawal from Music Lessons

For families that wish to withdraw from individual music lessons, the deadline is Friday 10 February. Any withdrawals after this point will result in the forfeiture of the full semester’s fees. Music Department Policies, Handbook and Calendar

Please note that some Music Department information and policies have been updated for 2023. All families are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the policies, particularly in regard to advice of student sickness/absence from lessons. All relevant Music Department documents are available via SEQTA documents. Please contact the Music Office or Music Staff with any queries.
