Foundations for Success

We warmly welcome our Foundation students and families to Emmaus Christian College, Brooklyn Park!

Our Foundation students have had an exceptionally busy two weeks learning all about school life. We are so proud of the way they are settling in with courage and building on their identity as learners, continuing their journey which started in ELC/Kindergarten.

To set up our Foundation students for success, we have devoted the first two weeks of this term to familiarise the students with their new surroundings, class routines and expectations. Students have had the opportunity to further develop essential skills such as making new friends, taking care of their belongings and completing simple tasks independently. In case you may be wondering why your child is exhausted by school pick-up time, these are just some of the things that they have been learning to do with increased independence:

  • lining up and walking in a straight line
  • carrying and unpacking/packing their bags at the start and end of the school day
  • remembering class routines
  • answering the role call and recognising their name in print
  • organising their belongings for recess and lunch
  • following instructions to start and stop an activity
  • keeping their table tops tidy
  • washing and drying their hands before eating
  • working out which food is eaten during brain break, recess and lunch
  • going to the toilet in a new setting, independently
  • developing problem solving strategies before seeking help from the teacher
  • getting to know new classmates, school support staff and specialist teachers
  • developing spatial awareness while lining up and walking with the class to ensure that everyone keeps safe
  • familiarising themselves with school grounds (e.g. playground, Front Office)
  • building stamina for the length of the school day and operating independently
  • being still (preferably sitting) during instructional time.

We would like to acknowledge the way our parents have prepared their children to be successful in their school life and thank them for all of their hard work. We look forward to working in partnership with families as we continue to get to know our students and support them in their learning.

We would also like to thank God for all of you as you start this exciting journey called school, alongside your child.

Brooklyn Park Junior School Assemblies

Our assemblies provide us with an opportunity to meet each week as a community, where we are able to worship and share in devotions together, giving us a sense of belonging and connection with God and one another.  Our students develop a deeper understanding of God and how much he loves and cares for us.

We love our community, and extend the invitation for parents and caregivers to join us as we meet together each Monday from 8.55am at Adelaide West Uniting Church, which is located at the far end of the car park here at Brooklyn Park.

We look forward to seeing you there
