Upcoming Sports Events

Term 1 has certainly started with a bang! Year 1-6 Water Safety week is now all done and dusted for the year, summer season for our Basketball and Netball teams have all recommenced, Rijken Cup team trials have been held, and now we continue to look ahead with many large sporting events coming up such as our Junior, Middle and Senior School Swimming, Sports Day and Cross-Country Carnivals all occurring this term. Please refer to our College Calendar for specific event dates, times, and locations.

These large sporting events are for all students and staff . They are not optional for students who'd rather have a 'study day' or day-off. All students are expected to attend and support their house teams, whether they are a strong athletic performer or not. The comradery, fun and memories that these events create are priceless. Being part of something bigger than themselves helps students to build a sense of belonging and to break down social barriers, no matter what year level. We look forward to seeing all students, staff and families at these events this term, and seeing which house has the best team-first approach in 2023.

Tennis Clinics

Our Tennis after-school clinics have begun on Tuesday nights with a lot of interest especially due to extending it to Middle School this year.

If you would like to get your child(ren) involved in these well-run sessions starting with Red ball, Orange and then to Green ball, email Marcus Wagstaff from Head Start Sport for further information.

Weekly Club Sports

For all our weekly club sports participants, continue to refer to your respective Team App page for posts about training or match cancellations due to extreme heat. Hopefully, these times will be minimal, but already we have had a warm start to the second half of summer season.

More information will be communicated through SEQTA about SAPSASA, SA School Sport events and other trials/competitions as they continue to near.

If you are interested in being involved in our club sports programs this term or in readiness for the Winter season, please email us and we will help you to get your child/ren involved, starting or continuing their sporting careers.

Adelaide Invitational Athletic Meet

Recently some of our current and past Senior School College Sport Leaders attended the Adelaide Invitational Athletic Meet, where current Australian and International Olympic and Commonwealth Game Athletes took part in a night of entertaining and high standard competition. Students had photos with Matthew Denny (Olympic Discus thrower), Rohan Dennis (Olympic 100m runner) and Bree Masters (Former world champion 100m and 200m). The night was enjoyed by those who attended, and it was nice to be able to provide this opportunity for our students. We look forward to others being reported on as the year continues.

Health and Physical Education

Currently, our Junior, Middle and Senior School Health and Physical Education classes across both campuses have been starting their Athletic units or their fitness and talent identification testing.

While watching the Adelaide Invitational Athletic competition with current and past students, it highlighted to me the fundamentals that our H&PE staff team are wanting to teach and have your children understand. We want them to be able to perform various specific movement sequences correctly, which not only helps them in their athletic pursuit but also in other aspects of their physically active lives.

The importance of knowing how and being able to run correctly is a vital life skill that will help to reduce illnesses, injury and maintain an active lifestyle. Something like running that seems so easy, is still so hard to do correctly.

These athletes that competed are certainly high achieving, but they, like all of us, had to start somewhere and their level of persistence, resilience, and dedication over a period has held them in good stead on the athletic fields but also in the classroom. A competitor who has a bright career in Discus achieved an ATAR score over 98.00 in 2022 and is looking to study engineering at University here or abroad.

We can all relate to having excuses not being able to do something, being challenged and giving up, but during these times it is an opportunity for us all to persevere, learn, acknowledge, and then go about trying to do our best again. No one can fault someone who tries their best, we can only acknowledge their efforts and encourage them to continue to do their best.
