Art News

As we approach the end of Semester 2, it's time to reflect on the wonderful journey our students have embarked upon in the Art room. While Ms. Kupfker was on leave, our new Art teacher, Ms. Arendze worked with students in the Art room. Our young artists delved into the captivating realms of drawing, painting, and textiles, discovering their passions and honing their skills along the way.

Foundation

The Foundation students embarked on an underwater adventure inspired by the enchanting tale of "The Rainbow Fish." After exploring the depths of this imaginative story, they eagerly translated their newfound knowledge into vibrant drawings and paintings of their own underwater environments. Their focus on jellyfish brought these captivating creatures to life, while also allowing them to practice fundamental drawing and painting techniques.

Year 1

The imaginative world of literature came alive for our Year 1 students as they explored the delightful book, "Square Cat." Drawing inspiration from this whimsical tale, the students created their own square cats, capturing their unique personalities through their use of lines, colors, shapes, and facial expressions. Additionally, the students engaged in wax resist painting techniques, resulting in a collection of lively and visually striking square cat masterpieces.

Year 2

Students embarked on a cultural exploration, delving into the rich traditions and artworks of Asia, with a particular focus on China and Japan. Immersed in the beauty of the Cherry Blossom Festival, known as Hanami, and the elegance of Chinese Ming vases, they channelled their newfound knowledge into designing their own Chinese Ming vases adorned with cherry blossoms. In addition to their drawing and painting endeavours, the students also had the opportunity to practice the art of paper weaving, expanding their artistic repertoire.

Year 3

The mesmerizing artworks of Vincent Van Gogh served as an inspiration for our Year 3 students. Studying Van Gogh's iconic sunflowers, they embarked on their own artistic journey, creating Van Gogh-inspired sunflower artworks using pastels. Throughout the process, they experimented with various mark-making techniques, allowing their creativity to blossom just like the sunflowers on their canvases.

Year 4

Textiles took centre stage for our Year 4 students as they explored the fascinating art of weaving. Inspired by the Mexican weaving techniques, particularly the ritual objects known as God's Eyes, they wove intricate patterns using textured wool and an array of vibrant colours. Their masterpieces took the form of a hanging mobile, showcasing their newfound skills in this ancient craft.

Year 5

Harnessing their ingenuity, Year 5 students embarked on an exciting weaving adventure using cardboard looms. Crafting their very own looms, they eagerly experimented with different colours and thicknesses of wool, honing their skills in cutting, knotting, sewing, and threading. The culmination of their efforts resulted in beautiful woollen wall hangings that bring colour and texture to our school environment.

Year 6

Students embarked on a creative exploration of Africa, where they immersed themselves in the diverse landscapes, people, and patterns of the continent. Sketching awe-inspiring African landscapes, they then channelled their artistic prowess into crafting captivating textile collages. By skilfully layering and arranging textured materials against a hessian background, they brought the vibrant spirit of Africa to life. The fruits of their labour can be seen throughout our school, especially in the reception area and outside the art room. The diverse and captivating artwork created by our talented students adds colour, vibrancy, and a touch of inspiration to our learning environment.

A heartfelt congratulations to all the students at Ormond Primary School for their exceptional achievements and dedication to the world of art. As we bid farewell for the semester and embark on a well-deserved holiday break, we encourage all students to continue exploring their artistic passions and nurturing their creative spirits on holidays. Enjoy your holidays.
