Teaching and Learning in 3H

What a semester we have had in 3H!

Can you believe the first half of the school year is almost over, with so much done and achieved! Let 3H tell you just what we have been up to this semester…

In Mathematics we have been focusing on not only how to answer a question, but more so how to show our working and thought process behind the answer. 3H have been using a range of written, hands on and verbal strategies to explain and show our thought processes throughout Mathematics lessons. Students enjoyed the challenge when asked to measure the perimeter of shapes from around our school, using the ever-enjoyable trundle wheels.

In Literacy, 3H and indeed the whole Year 3 cohort have been incorporating our inquiry topics into our reading and writing. We have been investigating what makes a community run, different cultural groups and celebrations and also the importance of essential services and community spaces; such as the Langwarrin Community Garden. Students in 3H have been exposed to a range of texts such as, ‘How did the Kangaroo Get its Tail’ and ‘Tidalic the Frog Who Caused a Flood’ which have led us down the path to activities celebrating Australia’s rich indigenous culture, and their strong community bonds.

Well if that wasn’t enough excitement in the classroom, we have also had a busy semester full of whole school events, sporting events and much more. Here are a few honourable mentions from our semester in 3H…

We pushed ourselves to the limit at our school cross country, some of us even making it through to the next level of the competition; however, all of us showing resilience by making it all the way to the end. We boogied with bugs at our ‘Proud to be Me’ incursion, dancing together to promote positivity and confidence in ourselves. Finally, we mixed it up at our Science excursion at ‘Twisted Science’, where we explored and experimented with a range of push and pull forces, floating away with bubbles, confusing gravity in the upside-down room and worked as a team to complete science activities.
