Teaching and Learning in 1C
1C NEWS
1C have had a wonderful and busy semester! We have been focusing on features of narratives to support student learning during reading and writing lessons. We have looked at characters, setting, describing words and how authors sequence stories. Students enjoyed practising their learning when writing narratives in their writing portfolios.
We celebrated Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week by reading texts such as Welcome to Country by Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy and ‘Somebodies Land’ by Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing. We discussed the importance of Indigenous culture and students were able to recognise how the events that occurred impacted the people involved and the generations that followed. Students completed an activity in line with the Reconciliation Week theme – ‘Be a Voice for Generations’.
In Numeracy, we have been learning about money. Students have learnt to identify Australian coins and notes and make amounts of money in different ways. We have been focusing on addition and subtraction strategies and the relationship between addition and subtraction. Student have enjoyed using hands on materials and playing games to support their learning.
In 1C, we have been loving Beat Saber as a brain break, the students have gotten very good at these and have moved on from the easy ones to the expert level ones. Beat Saber brain breaks have become a regular occurrence and students enjoy singing along as well.
