Principal's Report

Attitudes To School Survey

Our students in Years 4, 5 and 6 have finished completing the Attitudes to School Survey. This is an annual survey from the Department of Education that allows students to provide feedback to the school about a range of things they experience at LPS. The survey is a statewide survey. Our school uses this data to help us continue improving and providing the students with the best experience we can at LPS.

School Council

Last night School Council reviewed our Uniform Policy. Some major changes to note include:

- Shoulder length hair must be tied up/back.

- Plain white or plain black socks are required.

- Students not adhering to the LPS Uniform Policy will not be considered for Above and Beyond awards, Adderly Allen Scholarships or Year 6 graduation awards (such as scholarships).

School Council also looked at other items of clothing such as beanies and winter jackets to become part of the LPS uniform. This is yet to be decided and even if we did move forward with new items, it would be a 2 year implementation to allow families to adjust to the new uniform requirements.

RESPECT, RESPECT, RESPECT.

I (and our staff) have made way too many phone calls home regarding students disrespectful behaviour. I have experienced this myself and will be asking for your support in improving this across the school.

Many of the parents I have had discussions with on the phone, at the front of the school or in my office have explained that they too are experiencing this behaviour at home.

I ask that we respond to this together. We all want our young people to grow up to be good human beings. We want them to be kind to others, lend a hand when needed and be respectful to all who come into their circle.

We will be re-visiting our school/classroom expectations from the beginning of Term 3 and be holding students to account for such behaviours including:

- Back chatting

- Arguing

- Disrupting teaching and learning time

- Refusing reasonable instructions from a staff member

Please talk to your child about this as it will be a school wide focus for Term 3.

I will share further information about this early next term.

Year 6 Camp

Our Year 6 campers are currently enjoying Sovereign Hill and all it has to offer. Tonight, they visit the amazing sound and light show, Blood on the Southern Cross. Whilst this is a terrific show it also supports their learning of the Eureka Stockade and the significance it had with regards to Australia becoming a democracy. Hopefully your child packed a beanie because Ballarat is no Cairns!
