Foley House News

Ms Julia Wilken - Head of Foley House

Theatre Sports

Foley made it through to the GRAND FINAL of the 2023 Theatre Sports! A mammoth effort by Zeke Esler, Matt Gibson, Joseph Lewis, Braden Gettliffe, Max Hodge, Parker Lovering and Ben Courtenay. Round 2 vs Ignatius was very close call game, with the two teams facing off in a tiebreaker but Foley prevailed. Unfortunately, we were runners up against Gilroy in the Grand Final, however the boys put on a great show! Special thank you to Mrs Taylor, Mr Minogue and Ms Gerry for facilitating and organising the event. What an effort!

Walkathon

The weather could not have been better for the 2023 Walkathon. The Foley boys were up bright and early, ready to hit the track and raise money for the College’s P&F association. Great work to all the boys and families who participated. I would also like to mention all the musicians who participated in the annual Battle of the Bands comp including Patrick Bach, George Pollard, Thomas Long, Joseph Lewis, Parker Lovering and Max Hodge (guitarist for the winning band: Miss Mardy).

Year 9 SMASHED Presentation

On Monday, Week 6 the Year 9 cohort were fortunate enough to attend ‘Smashed’, a drama performance by Gibber Education Group focussing on the issue of underage drinking. ‘Smashed’ is designed to reinforce key learning objectives in a visual way and acknowledge that teenagers identify risk-taking and the use of social media with the consequences of underage drinking. The boys found it very entertaining, whilst also understanding the dangers and risks associated with underage drinking.

Year 10 Dancing Lessons

For the past five weeks the Year 10s have been participating in dance lessons with neighbouring girls’ schools, Mt St Michaels, and Loreto College. The students have learnt the salsa, box step and rumba whilst socialising and building positive relationships with the other students.

A further congratulations to Nick Keir 12F for his selection in the U18 Queensland Hockey Team. Nick is preparing to compete in the national competition in Hobart in July.

Hunter Chan-Riotto 7F has been selected in the Met North Football Team which is due to compete at the QSS State Championships in Cairns in August. Great work Hunter!

Lastly, Zac Colquhoun 11F is the captain of PUSH POWER MCA for the Push Up Challenge. The challenge asks individuals to complete 3144 push-ups over 23 days in June to raise awareness about Men’s Mental Health. It’s a fun way for Australians to connect with one another, get fit and learn about Men’s mental health. The money raised from the challenge is donated to Lifeline, Movember and The Push for Better Foundation. Over the course of the 23-day challenge, Zac’s goal is to raise $3144.00. $1 per push-up Zac completes! Zac is aiming to double it to 6288 push-ups and including running - what a goal!
