Friday kicked off with another massive boarders' afternoon feast and an hour of Touch Rugby League on the oval before heading towards Hamilton for a couple of hours at Eat Street. It’s always a big hit with the boys and it was great to see so many of the other SEQ boarding schools in attendance. Once the sugar rush died down it was an early night to prepare for the big set of sport fixtures against St Laurence’s College.

Round six of sport saw Laurie’s Old Boys Day take place and there was a cracking atmosphere at the Runcorn playing fields throughout the day. There were mixed results in what was a very competitive day, which ultimately ended in a couple of narrow losses for both the 1st XI and 1st XV sides. Everyone looks to the final round against St Edmunds College here at Marist next weekend and the Boarding Family Day celebrations. With the 1st XV supporters arriving back at school around dinner time we had a quiet evening in the dorms with a few boys heading up to the gym for an hour or so of Basketball.

On Sunday we tried something entirely new with the La Valla and Montagne boarders heading down to Carrara to watch the Australian Wheelchair Rugby finals take place. The boys weren’t entirely sure what to expect heading into the games but got right into it as the games got underway. We arrived during the Bronze Medal match between Queensland and New Zealand which was an aggressive affair with several players being smashed onto their side. It set the tone for a NSW vs Victoria final which had star players and Paralympians, Ryley Batt and Stu Robinson, facing off against each other. It was a topsy turvy game with very few mistakes that ultimately went into overtime with Ryley Batt scoring a final second winner to take the choccies. The boys really enjoyed the spectacle and found many similarities with Basketball as players set blocks and screens to isolate pockets of space around the court. The day finished off with a mini Q&A with one of the Victorian players about the ins and outs of Wheelchair Rugby before heading back to Ashgrove for Sunday Mass.
