Secondary 7/8
7/8A
This term has been an incredibly exciting, fun filled and busy time for everyone in 7/8A. We have continued to create positive friendships, built resilience through being exposed to new experiences and as always, strived to deepen our knowledge and understandings in a range of curriculum areas. Students have attended a range of interactive experiences that have exposed them to different cultures, lifestyles and activities. 7/8A have engaged in African drumming, Hip-Hop dancing, intensive fitness, Zumba and of course Year 7 and 8 camp which was an incredible experience that encouraged all students to challenge themselves. All the staff and students are looking forward to continuing to expand our knowledge, skills and friendships in Semester 2.
7/8B
7/8B have continued on with their wonderful progress from last term. We began the term expanding on our Discovery Unit and what emotions arise from completing different activities. The class displayed great persistence to learn how to perform dance movements at Zumba, were amazed at the 3D experience watching underwater animals at iMax and demonstrated great courage when experiencing the animals from the Zoo to You. This all helped students to present a fantastic poster about the different emotions they max experience throughout the day and reasons for why this occurs. The class continued to practise buying their lunch where they could on these days and wrote some great reflections about their experiences. Thanks for another great term 7/8B!
7/8C
78C have had a wonderful term. Here are just a few of the highlights:
- Cody faced his fear of heights on the ‘giant swing’ at Campaspe Downs
- Angus proved to be a wilderness adventurer on the night walk at the Summit
- Jett learnt to see in the dark while caving at the Summit
- Steve became a rope climbing champion at the Summit
- Aidan asked lots of insightful questions about technology
- Marcus did a perfect cartoon drawing of how walking, running and swimming helps him with emotional regulation
- Jareth showed some leaps and bounds in his maths addition skills
- Lawson perfected his acting skills by demonstrating to the class what the ‘red zone’ could look like
- Gabes showed his fantastic dance moves during High School Musical rehearsals
- Bilal demonstrated his superb sports coaching potential during sports activities with La Trobe.
After all these Term 2 highlights I’m looking forward to seeing what 78C can do in term 3!
7/8D
78D have continued their learning journey in Term 2 with many achievements to be celebrated! We do this by working as a learning community with mutual respect, with the common objectives of being responsible, being safe and most importantly being kind to one another.
The students have immersed themselves in weekly sessions of Inquiry that included themes around mental health and wellbeing. They have participated in the Smorgasbord Activities which included Sensory Circuits, Art Therapy, Intensive Exercise and Hip-Hop Dancing. The African Drumming workshop was popular as well as the production ‘Zana and the Lost Code’, which was based on the themes of mental health and cyber security. All the students are working hard for the Spectacular ‘High School Musical’, with a weekly dance practice.
In Mathematics, students were engaged in learning a range of concepts such Addition, Subtraction, Number Patterns, Chance & Probability and most recently Data and Representation. In our Reading sessions, students are learning a range of new vocabulary as well as skills in inferencing and reading fluently. Students have learnt about sentence structures to make their writing interesting to read using nouns, verbs and adjectives. All this hard work culminated in learning how to edit our writing and presenting it to our audience.
We are so proud of our happy campers. Both the Year 7 and Year 8 students rose to the challenge of a three-day camp where they displayed a lot of resilience, courage and sportsmanship! All in all, we’ve had a busy and exciting Term 2. Hearty Congratulations to Jamie as our SRC Representative, we thank you for your hard work and contribution.
7/8E
7/8E have had a great Term 2 doing heaps of fun things. We have read about Ravi and Joe in ‘Save me a Seat’ which we have really enjoyed. We have loved many learning experiences that we have used the photos for our writing. Our favourite was the African Drumming session: it was so much fun banging the drums loudly.
We have engaged in wellness activities to ensure we stay healthy and happy. We did; Art Therapy which was calming, peaceful and colourful, a Sensory Circuit which was challenging but fun, high energy Hip-Hop dancing and Intensive Exercise which was exhausting but helped us get fit.
Five students went on Year 7 and Year 8 camps. Kurt tells us that Campaspe Downs was filled with awesome activities that challenged him, his favourite was doing Laser Tag. Sierra reports that The Summit was the, “most amazing, fun thing that I have ever done”. The flying fox was her highlight. Mason and Frankie attended the SRC camp where they made pizza and did leadership activities with all SRC members.
Semester 1 is done and dusted we can’t wait to see what Semester 2 has in store for us.
7/8F
What a wonderful and incredibly busy term we have had in 78F! We began the term welcoming Shalom, Hursh, Mara and Jamie into the classroom. Over the term we have all gotten to know each other well through a number of new experiences. Our class LOVES sport and were lucky enough to participate in a weekly sport program for 4 weeks led by LaTrobe University students. Through this program the students worked on their coordination and sportsmanship, gaining some new skills.
As always, camp was an absolute highlight for those students who were able to attend. Through campfires, obstacle courses, and activities such as abseiling, the students built their resilience and deepened their connections with others. Over the term the students learned more about how to enhance their wellbeing, particularly the role that interoception plays in helping us regulate our emotions.
Through weekly activities including art therapy, fitness classes and African Drumming, the students explored the impact that these activities have on their regulation. It has been a fabulous term and we look forward to Semester 2!
7/8G
Semester One has been filled with so many fun things and of course lots of hard work too. The Year 7’s and 8’s both went on their respective camps to Campaspe Downs and The Summit. The Year 7’s enjoyed activities such as archery and rock climbing, while the Year 8’s enjoyed the “Monster Course!” Staff of both camps reported that students showed resilience, and upheld the school expectations while out of the school.
Students have been participating in Smorgasbord activities which all support our mental health. This relates to our Term Two Inquiry question of “how can we have good mental health?” We have been participating in dancing, exercise and art therapy, and discussing how this helps our mental health.
We had an exciting African Drumming incursion at the beginning of Term 2, where students enjoyed connecting with their peers and teachers through music, as we learned that the music we played together meant “unity.” Overall we have had such a lovely term and semester, and I’m so proud of 7/8G for all of their hard work.
7/8H
Secondary 7/8H had so many amazing experiences during this short term.
To start with, our class of 10 became a class of 11🎉
All of the students attended one of the following camps: Concord Camp, The Summit or Campaspe Downs. Each camp encouraged the students to step out of their comfort zone as they needed to display bravery, endurance and adaptability. One of the best things about camp was seeing friendships strengthened and new ones formed. The students and teachers returned to Concord exhausted but with a newfound appreciation for our families and beds.
The students participated in several incursions. The African Drumming was a real highlight. You could hear the sounds of the drums from the other side of the campus. Brainstorm Productions visited Concord School. They performed ‘Zanna and the Lost Code’, which shared an important message about being safe online. Our class especially loved the breakdancing incursion. This is such a musical class. The enthusiasm shown during our dance rehearsals for ‘High School Musical’ has been phenomenal.
We were excited to have six of our students successfully audition and accept additional roles in the upcoming production. We can’t wait to see you all at the Family and Friends performance next term. It’s going to be spectacular!
Have a wonderful break. Recharge your batteries because Term 3 is going to be busy yet so much fun.
ALLIED HEALTH
Occupational Therapist: Olivia Sun
So many memories we have created when thinking about this term! We have been working hard on connecting our body clues to the emotions/zones during OT sessions. Besides, OT has been running a sensory circuit for our students where heaps of fun activities that targets gross motor skills, sensory integration and regulation were delivered. It was fantastic to see that most students actively participated and had fun in the sensory circuit, and found some activities engaging and relaxing for them!
Speech Therapist: Leia Leventis
What a fun term we have had! It has been a highlight going on Camp with the Year 8’s and seeing the students encourage each other and congratulate each other on giving activities a go that were outside their comfort zone. It has been awesome to then see the students construct writing to reflect on their camp experiences back at school.
We have an Allied Health baby!!
On March 24th Natalie Leane (Occupational Therapist in 7/ 8 section) and her husband welcomed the healthy arrival of baby girl Mackenzie Marfatia weighing 3.8kgs. Everyone is doing well and loving their special time together.
