Team Leader's Message

Term 2

Term 2 has been full of learning, fun and adventure in Secondary 7/8.

This term has seen the beginning of rehearsals for the Secondary Spectacular ‘Highschool Musical’ performance. Each class takes part in weekly dance rehearsals, and those students who auditioned and were cast as lead roles practise their scripts together each Friday afternoon. It is wonderful to see the show coming together, and we know the students are looking forward to sharing their hard work with their families on Friday September the 8th.

During our Discovery Unit students have been exploring the importance of mental wellbeing and participated in four different rotations of activities, experimenting with different strategies to support their mental wellbeing. These strategies were: dancing, a fitness circuit, an Interoception Circuit with an OT and Art Therapy. It was wonderful to see students engaging in activities with their peers and identifying how each activity made them feel.

This has led into our Literacy learning, where students have been focusing on Writing based on a shared experience. Through the use of graphic organisers and writing templates students have created individualised texts based on these experiences.

In Maths, our focus has been on exploring the concepts of addition and subtraction, patterns and algebra and data representation and interpretation. Students have been particularly engaged in creating a question to ask their peers, before collating the data received and transferring this into a graph.

In week 5, many of the students took part in the Concord Camping program. The Year 7’s spent two nights at Campaspe Downs, where they challenged themselves to take part in a range of outdoor activities such as the giant swing, abseiling and an obstacle course.

The Year 8 students spent two nights camping in tents at the Summit, in Trafalgar East. It was wonderful to see the students work in small groups and encourage one another to participate in all the camp had to offer. Some favourite activities were the Flying Fox, climbing to the top of ‘Tash’s Ladder’ and the Monster Mud course.

We hope all students have a safe and happy holidays, and we look forward to Term 3 - another term full of learning!
