Library News

Welcome to St Joseph’s College Resource Centre

Well, Semester 2 is officially underway and our library is buzzing with new class groups coming in and Reading Room classes borrowing books for personal reading. Our Media classes are also busy borrowing digital cameras for their new filming projects. We kindly ask that if you are borrowing a camera, you are ensuring that your footage is transferred and deleted as the library staff erase all content once the cameras are returned. Also, please ensure that all the cords borrowed are returned as well as we are regularly chasing those up!

Premier’s Reading Challenge:

It’s that time of year again when The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge is officially up and running! We invite all the students of St Joseph’s College to take part in the Challenge and record all the books read between now and September 8. If you complete the challenge in time by registering and logging the books read, you will receive a certificate and your name printed in the Herald Sun Newspaper!

Good luck!! https://www.vic.gov.au/register-and-log-in-premiers-reading-challenge

Audiobooks… Available NOW!

Did you know that June is AudioBook month? Well, the library team are here to share with the wonderful St Joseph’s staff and students ‘What’s New’ in our library and yes, it’s all about Audiobooks!

Who doesn’t love putting on headphones or ear buds and chilling out to the soothing sound of being read to? Aside from being a worthwhile and calming way to engage in a book, audiobooks have also proven to be beneficial in a variety of educational ways, such as:

  • increasing reading accuracy by 52%.
  • increasing reading speed, expanding vocabulary and improving fluency.
  • teaching pronunciation.
  • improving comprehension by 76%.

We encourage everyone to make the most of these amazing new resources!

Happy Listening!
