Sports Report

Loddon Mallee Region (Year 11/12) Girls Soccer

There was some strong competition in Bendigo at the LMR Senior Girls Soccer event on Thursday 1 June. Our team showed persistence and courage as they came up against Bendigo in their first game. The second game was a closer tussle against Mildura with Mildura winning 3-0. Well done to every team member who continued to show grit and determination throughout the games. Thank you to Ms Orton and Miss Clark for coaching and assisting on the day.

Loddon Mallee Cross Country Results

The cooler conditions certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the St Joe’s Cross Country team when they travelled to St Arnaud on Tuesday 6 June! There were some sensational results individually and within our age group teams. Congratulations to each individual who contributed their very best on the day. Thank you to Miss Miesen and Mr Brady for their support throughout the day.

Students who placed in the top 12 have qualified for the State Cross Country Championships in Yarra Glen on Thursday 13 July. Please see Compass for further information regarding this event.

Coach Profile of the Week

Mr Regis Chakabva

Coach - Year 7 Girls Soccer Team

Did you know that Mr Chakabva’s earliest memories of playing soccer were when he was 4 years of age? His childhood team was Manchester United because his Dad and brother followed that team. His usual position on the field is midfield.

During primary school Mr C (as the students call him) fondly remembers being coached by the grounds-person at the school (school junior team) in grade two. He then went on to captain the school junior team when he was in grade three. Mr C played for the senior side in grade four and captained that team when he was in grade five and six. Mr C also started playing street cricket in grade 5.

In Year 8 he then traded the soccer ball for a cricket bat!

Mr C's parents were always supportive of his sporting interests and encouraged him in all aspects. You may see Mr C on the training field at the Border Raiders or on the sidelines at St Joseph’s College.

Good luck Mr C with your teams!
