Spotlight on Students

Kindergarten Farmers Market
Wednesday, 28th June was a very busy day for Kindergarten and their teachers! They have been working hard all term learning about where our food comes from and how it gets to our homes. Kindergarten investigated why farms are important places for all of us. In the afternoon, they shared their learning journey with their families and senior school friends. Kindergarten set up stalls with items to sell, and taught customers the process of how our food gets from the farm to our plates at home. They displayed a gallery of their artworks and informative text about farm animals and food processes.
Thank you to all the wonderful families that came along and helped Kindergarten to raise money for Rural Aid Australia.
Year 6 Reconnect Day
Today Year 6 participated in a Reconnect Day. The students attended workshops and sessions with a keynote presenter, Mrs Brenda Quayle from Real Schools. Year 6 students learnt about the brain, particularly the limbic system (emotional) and the neo-cortex function of the brain (action, logic and decisions). Mrs Quayle equipped the students with knowledge of the brain's response during escalated situations or environments and how they can avoid ‘flipping the lid, when the limbic system takes over the neocortex function and we make decisions that are emotion based rather than logic based. Students learnt about stored responses to best deal with managing emotions and behaviour.
Between sessions, Year 6 engaged in team-based STEM challenges enhancing their effective communication skills, sense of teamwork and bonding. The students performed amazingly as respectful learners and safe successful participants.
Well done Year 6!
3/4D
3/4D have been learning all about area and volume in maths. This week Dingu students had the opportunity to explore Minecraft education, where they used the Minecraft world of visual representations to help them understand the concept of area and volume.
Students used their knowledge of mathematical formulas to solve the different puzzles within the worlds and also created their own puzzles to challenge their peers.
Multicultural Public Speaking
Congratulations to Jason Y, Jessica C, Ayesha R, Zak E who were selected to represent our school in the Local Finals of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition which was held at Bayanami Public School. All of our speakers presented fantastic, prepared speeches and tried extra hard during the impromptu component of the competition. Well done to our fantastic public speakers!
Choir
The Dundas Choir (Years 2 - 6) has had a fantastic first term of singing sessions before school on Tuesdays. We have enjoyed hot chocolate and treats such as pancakes and muffins before warming up our voices and practising our songs. This term the choir has been learning about strengthening the transition between chest and head voice, the importance of diaphragmatic breathing to support sound and we've been learning to sing rounds and harmonies. Looking forward to more fantastic singing in Term 3!
