Principal's Update

At Dundas Public School we do our best always

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had another busy and productive term at DPS. I hope that all families enjoy the upcoming school holiday break. We look forward to seeing students return to school next term on Tuesday 18th July.

Congratulations Mr Yee

Yesterday, Mr Yee was recognised for his outstanding service and commitment to Public Education. Mr Yee was selected from all of the teachers in 21 schools within The Carlingford Principal’s Network. The Director of Carlingford Network, Mr Leydon, spoke about his dedication and commitment to the students at Dundas as well as his service as President of the Merrylands Parramatta PSSA. This recognition is extremely well-deserved. We are very proud of Mr Yee! I am very proud of all of my staff at Dundas PS!

Semester 1 student reports

I would like to thank all of my staff for the work that has gone into the Semester 1 student reports. The process to complete them is a long and complex one that starts at the beginning of the year.

Please bring your report to the Parent Teacher Interviews scheduled for week 1 next term to discuss with your child’s teacher.

Parents Teacher Interviews (Term 3, Week 1)

Parent – Teacher Interviews are scheduled for week 1 next term. We hope that you found the student report an informative document which indicates how your child is progressing in their learning, as well as areas for future development.

Parent/Teacher interviews will be 10 minutes to discuss student progress. Information on how to book your Parent Teacher interview was shared on our Audiri app (previously known as SkoolBag) last Friday.

Week 10 – Celebrating Diversity week

I would like to thank Mrs Zalaf for organising our first ‘Celebrating Diversity’ week. It is important to remember that we are all different, but we all belong. The week has been planned in such a way that students will have opportunities to learn about others, show respect and kindness.

If you follow our Facebook page, you would have seen posts from this week. If you have not followed our Dundas Public School Facebook page yet, we strongly recommend you do so as we will be highlighting the wonderful learning that takes place in our classes throughout Semester 2. Every class will have their week to shine so follow our page asap.

Silent Disco

Yesterday, 254 students across the school participated in our first ever silent disco. Students and staff were dressed in their disco finery and a lot of fun was had. Thank you to Mrs Zalaf for organising such a fun event during our ‘Celebrating Diversity’ week.

Bandaged Bear Breakfast

Thank you to all the families who attended our Bandaged Bear Breakfast this morning. Students had a lot of fun wearing their pyjamas and participating in a range of activities including the Bear Care Hospital Booth, Bear Photo Booth, Merchandise and Bear Judging Competition.

Congratulations to our Bear Judging Competition winners; The Most Unusual Bear – Olivia W and The Biggest Bear – Marcela P.

The SRC really enjoyed hosting this wonderful event and we appreciate all the support and positive school community spirit which made it such a huge success. We are very proud to announce that our school raised almost $1000 for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead which is an incredible achievement!

Stationery Donation Drive

The Term 2 Stationery Drive initiative has finished. I would like to thank

everyone for their support of this initiative.

I would like to thank everyone for donating items and for supporting such a worthwhile charity. Your donations will help students to have the basic pieces of stationery they need to help them access the curriculum. We have had a few students at Dundas PS receive a pencil case from Stationery Angels this year. Thanks again!

Kindergarten enrolment for 2024

Celebrating school attendance

Yesterday, 177 students received a bronze award for achieving an overall attendance rate of 95% or higher for Term 2. I would like to congratulate all of these students (53% of our students) and their families for this wonderful achievement.

Next term, we will be rewarding students for making an improvement in their overall attendance. More information on this will be shared with the community early next term.

Applications for Extended Leave (Travel during a school term)

Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during school term is necessary, discuss this with the school. Family holidays and travel taken during the school term are not considered leave unless it is for specified special circumstances, such as an important life event (wedding or bereavement).

Policy states ‘14.6. Where a principal considers that the travel is appropriate during school term, the principal should issue the parent with an Application for Extended Leave – Travel for completion and inform the parent that if the Application is accepted, the absences will be recorded as “L” – Leave.’

Applications for Extended Leave that do not include justifiable reasons, will not be approved for leave and a certificate of extended leave will not be issued. Following policy, these absences will be recorded as ‘explained but unjustified’.

Below is a link to the Application for Extended Leave form.

https://education.nsw.gov.au/content/dam/main-education/policy-library/public/implementation-documents/pd-2005-0259-02-2.pdf

If the travel period exceeds 50 school days, students may be eligible to enrol in distance education.

Safe holiday

We wish all of our students and families a safe break and look forward to seeing everyone in 2 weeks.

Kind regards,

Lee Shipley
