Year 11 Captains' Report

We have been off to a great start this term, with many events colouring our school life. Of course, if we’re talking about colours, we can’t exactly forget about IDAHOBIT Day.  IDAHOBIT Day is the International day against homophobia, biphobia, intersexism and transphobia. It is a day of acceptance and inclusiveness, and we are grateful for everyone who participated by donating and wearing a colourful accessory, as these donations will be going to Beyond Blue. We hope that everyone was able to enjoy themselves on the day, as there was a sausage sizzle, guess the number of lollies in a jar and a hand painting mural to participate in.  The  day was run by our school’s student run SRC.

There was also another big event held on, Friday 2 August,  the '2019 LHS The Voice  Grand Final'.   We have to say a huge congratulations to our winner, Ayla Harnett (Year 7) with her magnificent performance of 'My Heart Will Go On', and not to mention our very own, Caitlin Huddleston (Year 11), who was the Runner-up this year. It was quite a fun moment with everyone being hyped up for each performance, all of which were filled with “charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent”-- Rupaul. Students from all year levels gathered around and were able to enjoy this day.  Everyone was astounded by the performances and effort put into this day.  All recordings are available on the Lilydale High School Facebook page.

Similarly, the day before, our VCAL students held a bottom half free dress day, in an effort to raise money for local primary schools. This was to help build seats and shop fronts for these schools, with many students participating in the event. It was a great effort by our VCAL students to prepare for this event and we are happy to see that many of us were a part of it.

This isn't the end of it all though, there have been two camps held these past few weeks, one of which was the VCE Ski camp. For our students, the camp was like a weekend getaway, to maybe forget, or even run away to MT Hotham, away from all our increasing homework. The camp was of course, all about skiing in the snow, with our students waking up to the great views of MT Hotham and having the chance to ride on ski lifts. Yet, despite all the falling over, this camp was a great opportunity for everyone to have a little fun and to meet new people.

Likewise, the Peer Leadership Camp was an opportunity for our Year 11s who had been a part of the Peer Support Program earlier this year, to act as leaders to help prepare and run the camp for the current Year 10s,who plan to do Peer Support next year. This was a great opportunity for our year 11s to further develop their leadership skills and for students of different year levels to come together and to develop new friendships and bonds. This camp was incredibly eye opening and it was really inspiring to see everyone open up and see bonds between ourselves strengthen, with the Year 10’s, who we will complete VCE with next year.

We hope that everyone who was a part of this, was able to enjoy themselves and had a small respite before returning back to school, even if we spent most of those 3 days talking, crying, laughing and creating lifelong memories, that we will always cherish.

We would also like to thank all of the teachers for putting up with our tears and jokes for the 3 days and for every student who came, for being so open and willing to support each other.

Year 12 Breakfasts and Funky Socks Friday

The Year 12’s are still enjoying a positive, social and nutritious start to their Fridays with their breakfasts.  Don’t forget, these are running from 8.00 am to 8:25 am in the VCE kitchen area. Well done to our dedicated captains for organising!

Funky Socks Fridays are also continuing this term, raising money for Cystic Fibrosis charities.

VCE Ski Camp

From Friday 2 August to Sunday 4 August, many of the Year 11 and 12 students attended the Senior School Ski Camp to Mount Hotham. The conditions were perfect and a great time was had by all.

Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances, please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.

Once a student has been approved for SAC redemption, they will be required to sit the SAC the next available time slot.

The Term 3,  IPT schedule has been posted on the Year 11 and 12 Noticeboards and Google Classrooms.

VCE students and Cars

Some students will acquire a car and licence in 2019.    PARKING is available in the Stadium Car Park.

NO DRIVER STUDENT MAY TAKE OUT ANOTHER STUDENT IN THEIR CAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

Students may obtain their parents’ permission to be driven to and from school in another student’s car.  A written note from both students’ parents must be given to the VCE Coordinators before driving another student or siblings.

Students must inform the VCE Coordinators of their licence plate numbers, car make and colour.

VCE Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit for absences from class there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon Study Periods, or after school.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study Periods, Periods 1 + 2.

Unexplained Absences

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved – you can do this through a signed note or via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.
