From the Principal Team
NAPLAN TESTING
Congratulations to our Year 7 and 9 students on their fantastic behaviour and the effort that they applied during NAPLAN tests held on May 14th-16th. It was very pleasing to see so many students attend and try their best. NAPLAN results are expected back late in Term 3, and are a great opportunity for parents and students to celebrate the learning growth that has been occurring in the past two years. Our Year 7 and 9 students also enjoyed a reward afternoon at StarBowl on May 16th to celebrate their hard work.
MORRISBY ONLINE CAREERS ANALYSIS PROGRAM
Year 9 students will also be participating in the new Morrisby Online Careers Analysis Program on June 12th during periods 1-4 and then having an afternoon filled with fun careers-based activities, which have been provided through the generous support of The Lighthouse Project.
A confidential report will be generated from the careers analysis program, which will help Year 9 students to make informed decisions about their future career pathways. Parents and students will be invited to meet with a qualified Careers Consultant to discuss the report, and their child’s future subject selection, vocational education and training options, senior secondary school certificates and further study options. If you would like any further information about the Morrisby Online Careers Analysis Program, please contact Mary-ann Linehan. (See Year 9 Assessment page for more information)
GENERAL ACHIEVEMENT TEST (GAT)
On Wednesday 12th June students from Years 11 and 12 do not have scheduled classes. On this day our Year 12 VCE students, scored VET students and any Year 11 students completing a Unit 3 & 4 will be sitting the General Achievement Test. Students who normally attend TAFE on this day will still be expected to attend, unless they are sitting the GAT.
The GAT is a test of general knowledge and skills in:
- written communication
- mathematics, science and technology
- humanities, the arts and social sciences.
As this is a general test, no special study is required for the GAT. Students will already have done preparation for the GAT in past study of subjects like English, Mathematics, Science and History, where they have built up general knowledge and skills in writing, numeracy and reasoning. These are the knowledge and skills that will be tested.
On the morning of Wednesday 12th June all students sitting the GAT are invited to a free barbecue breakfast at the school from approximately 8:30am. If you would like any further information regarding the GAT, please contact the school.
YEAR 11 EXAM WEEK
With our semester one subjects rapidly drawing to a close, it is time for Year 11 students (and Year 10 fast-trackers) to commence their final assessment tasks, an examination on the information covered in each of their Unit 1 subjects. Year 11 exam week will run from June 3rd-7th. Students have been given a copy of their exam timetable, and a copy has been sent home. Students will not be required to attend classes during this week, and are permitted to leave school during the times that they do not have exams. A study room will be available for students who wish to remain at school to study. Students are expected to be in full school uniform during their exams.
REPORTING
The next round of Student Performance Average (SPA) reports for students in Years 7-12 has been completed. Parents/Guardians and students will be able to access these reports (through Xuno) from the beginning of next week. We encourage students and parents to study the results in each category for each subject and consider how well they have gone and how they might continue to improve in Semester 2.
