Year 5 Camp

Heading to Ballarat to find gold!

52 students from Year 5 and 6 lucky staff members attended the annual Gold Camp from 13 -15 February. On Wednesday we travelled by bus to Bendigo first and visited the Central Deborah Gold Mine and Chinese Joss House Temple. The 64m underground tour was exciting and quite damp at Central Deborah, but thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. In the afternoon we went for a swim at the Eureka Pool, which was luckily heated. We then checked in at the Sovereign Hill Hotel, we were staying in the Southern Barracks. That night we saw the new light and sound show ‘Aura’ which was amazing!

After a small sleep in we had a yummy cooked breakfast of bacon, eggs and hashbrowns inside Sovereign Hill. At 10:00 am we started our big day in Sovereign Hill. We did lots of gold panning, saw $180,000 gold pour, visited the Chinese camp, toured the Red Hill Mine, played the gold Fever game, went bowling, candle dipping and played in the new playground. It was a huge day! That night we had Pizza Hut for dinner and a Trivia night with Mr Bowles.

Friday morning we packed up and headed to the Gold Museum and Eureka Centre to see the real Eureka flag, which is valued at 18 million dollars!

It was a great camp, with lovely weather and we were all excited to get home at 5:30 pm on Friday (especially the teachers).
