NAPLAN
Next week, Year 9 students will sit NAPLAN tests:
- Tuesday 15 May
- Wednesday 16 May
- Thursday 17 May
NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.
It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress. At the classroom level it is one of a number of important tools used by teachers to measure student progress.
Year 9 Captains' Report
Now that everyone is into the groove of things again, Term 2 is running smoothly. There has been quite a few events over the last couple of weeks like; Duke of Ed camp, Careers Day, Market Day and Cross Age Tutoring. Some events that are coming up are; Education Week and Hunger Banquet.
Last week, Year 9 students who attended the Duke of Ed camp got to experience camping and hiking in the Cathedral Ranges in all whether conditions; hot, cold, wet and dry. The camp was really fun and exiting. Lunch at Beechworth Bakery in Healesville was pretty tasty.
Last week, Year 9 students participated in Careers Day on either Monday or Thursday. It was a great experience and I’m sure all the students took something away that will benefit them in the near future.
Last Friday, the Year 11 Business Management students hosted all different types of stalls from burgers to cupcakes for Market Day. Students from all year levels had the opportunity to buy some delicious foods and drinks. It was a fun and exciting day.
Every week on a Monday after school, until 3:45pm, students from Years 7 to 9 have the opportunity to go to the VCE rooms and get some 1-on-1 time with Year 11 or 12 students, to help with any overdue work and homework.
Running from the 20 to 26 May, is Education Week, which will be full of fun opportunities in the world of education.
On Tuesday 22 May, in Room 10, for a two dollar entry, students can experience food from different cultures and countries to help support hunger stricken children.

2018 Year 10 Central Australia Camp
This year's camp to Central Australia was an amazing experience for 196 Year 10 students and LHS teachers involved.
Well done everybody for making the camps so wonderful. A fantastic time was had by all and the students were a credit to the school.
Below is a copy of the 2018 9 Day Itinerary for Year 9 parents and students who might be interested in this camp for next year.
Below are some comments from Year 10 parents:
Thank you to the organisers and staff who took our kids on this amazing trip! - Jackie Stirling
Thank you to all the Staff that gave up their time to take our kids on an adventure of a lifetime. My son had an amazing time and I am very grateful. - Melanie McLaren
Our son had a great time! Thank you. - Jodie Scott-Greer
Student Achievements
Please let us know if your child does something special – we would love to know and acknowledge their achievements.
Year 10 student - Enrolment Information
In the next few weeks, all Year 10 families will receive an email from Lilydale High School requesting that you review the attachment to the email. The subject line will read;
FW: Please review the attached Student Enrolment Information.
The proforma email requests that you print off the Enrolment Information, make corrections, sign it and return the form to the school.
As it is very important that these details are up to date, could you please read them carefully and make changes where necessary. You may either print off the attachment and make changes and return it to the school or send a return email with corrections included.
It is also very important that you check and confirm the Occupation Group codes on Page 3, this is essential demographic information that ensures that Lilydale High School receives appropriate resource allocation for its students. A Guide to the occupation codes is at the rear of the Student Information.
If we do not have an email address recorded for your family the Student Enrolment Information will be mailed home to you.
Arriving to school ON TIME - 8.30 AM
Students should be arriving at school no later than 8.30 am. This gives them time to put bags in lockers and organise their books for Periods 1 and 2 and get ready for Home Group Assembly.
Home Group Assembly STARTS at 8.40 am.
It is imperative that students attend Home Group Assembly to receive important information.
Students who arrive late for school must provide a note from a parent/guardian.
Students Absences
Parents and guardians are asked to please approve your child's absences on COMPASS.
It is DEECD (Department of Education and Early Childhood Development) policy that all student absences are accounted for.
Currently, we have a large amount of Year 10 students with unapproved absences between Monday 30 April and Friday 11 May (Year 10 camp period). These absences must be approved as quickly as possible. The school absent text message, phone calls and emails have been made requesting absences be approved.
If you have forgotten your Compass username and password, please contact Lauren Kelso in the Middle School Office.
