REPTILE HOUSE
Reptile House and Animal Studies
It’s been a busy few weeks with a lot happening in the Reptile House and the Animal Studies course.
We’ve had several more students join the Zoo Keeper team in the Reptile House over the past few weeks and the whole team have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks getting ready for the information night when they got to show off their animals and talk about the program.
The team has also been busy building new enclosures for our blue tongues, which are still in the process of being finished.
The student and volunteer team have also had a great time renovating the water dragon enclosure which is the standout feature of the room. The best part was releasing the water dragons into their new area and watching them enjoying their new space.
We also welcomed some new animals into the collection including four much loved baby angle headed dragons and three baby land mullets which will are Australia’s largest skink species. They are also joined by five centralian blue tongues which are rarely seen in captivity and more than 50 young frogs which have recently morphed from the tadpoles we bred earlier in the year.
The Animal Studies students were excited to visit the RSPCA and learn about animal first aid and what it means to be an animal attendant. Students experienced everything from scooping poop to cuddling bunnies as well as having a bit of fun with feeding animals and showing off their life saving skills by conducting CPR on dogs, albeit manikin dogs.
We have a Bunnings BBQ fundraising event on Saturday May 19, so come down to Lilydale Bunnings between 9 am and 4 pm to pay us a visit and help support the Reptile House.
