Staff Profile

Beverley Tongue

This is my first year at Scoresby Secondary College and I am really enjoying teaching Year 12 students.

My career path has been varied and very interesting.

My plans to become a teacher were put on hold as I initially pursued a career in theatre and television as a classical ballet dancer and choreographer and toured with these productions as well as working as an assistant costume designer with ‘The King and I’ and ‘Wildcat’ at the Princess Theatre.

I then began my Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Tasmania before transferring to Melbourne University where I completed an Honours Degree, being awarded a PhD Scholarship.

At the Royal Children’s Hospital I worked in cancer research before holding research, tutoring and lecturing positions at Melbourne, La Trobe, RMIT and Deakin Universities and then completed my Diploma of Education and completed my Master of Learning Intervention at Melbourne University.

I have taught at Footscray Girls Secondary College, Balwyn High, University High, East Doncaster Secondary College, and also independent and catholic colleges including Bialik College, St Leonards College, Siena College as well as International Schools.

I am interested in assessment and have worked at the VCAA for twenty years as assessor in English, Psychology, Philosophy, the GAT and NAPLAN.  I have also written items for Tests on Demand and have run intensive lectures for VCE students in English and Psychology.

I have held Coordinator roles and leadership positions in Special Education and Integration and can teach several VCE subjects.
