Year 7 News

Debating

From the beginning of semester two, we were given the opportunity to participate in an interschool debating program. Consisting of six students from year 7, we formed McClelland’s first debating team, a feat we are extremely thankful to flaunt. Over several mentoring sessions, we’ve studied and devised plans for the upcoming debate rounds, revolving around numerous issues and topics. During the next couple of weeks, we had consistently fought and argued against other schools and through the dust from the battle, we reigned victorious and undefeated. Topping schools like  Mt Erin, Dromana and Frankston, the trophy we now share as a team was heavily supported by the school with special thanks to Mrs Bucher for pulling us all together to compete.

The many lunchtimes, sessions and even hours beyond the school grounds definitely rewarded us in the long run; with McClelland College being the sole team to be triumphant and one of our members being bestowed with the Best Speaker of the whole ordeal, it’s undeniable that our hard work paid off

As not only a representative and a student of McClelland College,  pupils at MCC are given numerous opportunities and chances in order to progress as both learners and people. Having the option to advance one’s speaking, writing and teamwork abilities has definitely opened up doors of opportunities for all of us. As we progress to year 8, that is merely the start of an even bigger journey.  Knowing rather well that we have an accomplishment that will be remembered and cherished as a part of our legacy leaves us with even more determination to strive harder and continue to do our best. Now that we have opened this one opportunity at McClelland for generations to come, we’ll be proudly watching from the sides and resume pursuing our adventure, working as a team and growing as we do so.
