PASTORAL CARE NEWS
This week the first official C.A.T (Community Action Team) meeting for this year was held and I got to introduce to those in attendance the Year 10 students who have stepped forward to rise to the challenge and volunteer to be the team leaders of the MCC Community Action Team for 2018. We could not do the work that we do without great leaders so seeing this list of names; which includes many passionate, enthusiastic and awesome young people confirms what a brilliant year 2018 will be.
TEAM LEADERS FOR 2018
President Nayani Navaneethan
Vice President Blair Davidson
Secretary Aribo Kaibwa
Prayer reader Nathan Bruss
Year Group Liaison Reps
Yr 7: Karanbir Sidhu
Yr 8: Nathan Bruss
Yr 9: Bonnie Browne
Yr 10: Julia Forner
Yr 11: Sarah Quarisa
Yr 12: Stephanie Bertoldo
The role of the year group leader is to interact with the students in the year groups, encourage students to attend our meetings (Once a month for whole team), ensure new members are made to feel comfortable, encourage students to take part in engagements and charitable activities, be a voice for the year group if no students are attending and advocate on behalf of the group.
The remainder of the term will allow the students to adjust to their new roles and plan for the year ahead. Currently Year 8 and C.AT are supporting Project Compassion during Lent and students are generously donating in their homerooms to reduce the impact of poverty on those less fortunate. At our next whole school briefing Nayani will address the school and inform them of some of the activities planned to align with the domains in our MCC Vision Statement that provide opportunities for all students and staff to be involved in some capacity.
Following our meeting the team leaders had their photo taken sitting on the seats in our “Conversation Corner”. The seats were organised by Mrs Karen Snaidero (Griffith’s local R U OK DAY Ambassador) and were donated to the school to serve as a visual reminder to ask the question each and every day…………………R U OK?
Our first cooking roster for CAREVAN has been scheduled for 14th March and we welcome any student who would like to volunteer at lunch and/or recess to join us. A volunteers list will be placed in the Library next week for students to add their name. Simple activities such as this are not only beneficial to the recipient of the meal but also allow students the opportunity to meet new people and expand their social circle.
Now that March has commenced many students are busy practising and preparing for our annual Harmony Day festivities to be held on March 21st. The day is a kaleidoscope of colour, sights and sounds. It is about embracing multiculturalism and living in harmony with each other. At MCC we have over 40 diverse cultural groups represented; and we celebrate this unique day through dance, music, traditional entertainment, outdoor games and activities and a range of traditional foods from a variety of cultures. It is a wonderful thing to see students and staff so proud of their cultural heritage and each year our celebration has an increase in participant numbers and enthusiasm.
With the start of the new month sees the beginning of Autumn which will bring some eagerly anticipated cooler weather. Please keep in mind I have a selection of warm uniforms if your child requires assistance, the items are all in good condition and have been kindly given to me to pass on where needed.
Please do not hesitate to me regarding C.A.T activities, uniforms or any additional support you would like for your child’s emotional or social wellbeing.
I hope you all have a safe and happy week.
