2018 is going to be a huge year for the college. This is extremely exciting as a host of opportunities arise. The Australian bishops have declared this year the ‘Year of Youth’ and the Catholic Schools Office at Wagga Wagga are supporting us to celebrate it in many ways. The theme is ‘New Horizons for Spreading Joy’.  It is about utilising the energy and talents of youth to better our faith communities.

One way we have started this already this year is with the CSO Year of Youth art competition.

CSO has asked students to design an artwork that incorporates the theme new horizons for spreading joy. The winning design will have their artwork commissioned to all schools within the Wagga Wagga Diocese as promotional banners and posters for the Year of Youth. The winning entry will receive a major prize; a pair of the new Bose SoundSport Free wireless headphones ($299.95). The two runner up entries will receive the prize of their choice between a $50.00 voucher at JB Hi-Fi or EB Games.

If you are interested in this at all please send me an email and I will send you further details or come and see me and I will help you out as much as possible. Below is an example of another entry this week. Entries close midnight the 2nd of April.

Project Compassion

As I said this year is all about youth showing what they can do and this is no different with our first major fundraising drive. Firstly, thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of those who have donated. We have passed our expectations and smashed our record with 4 weeks remaining.

We are currently in the third week of Lent. A time when we try to give up some of our favourite things modelled after Christ’s forty day fast in the desert.  At MCC and all Catholic schools in the diocese we not only encourage you to give up, but to give. So those with too much offer something to those with nothing.

I am extremely proud to announce that so far our college is at $900. This is an amazing effort but we still want to raise more to help more.

Anyone can donate through your homeroom collection boxes or our website:

Youth Festivals

This week Charlene Robson from the CSO visited our assembly where we launched the Year of Youth and spoke to the whole school about our experience at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival in 2017. This was also a sneak peak at what students can expect at the upcoming Wagga Wagga Youth Festival later this year with applications coming out soon.

The students spoke about how the experience helped form their faith and gave courage to their convictions around spirituality. They performed a song by Matt Maher; Because He Lives. They encouraged the whole school to join in and it was a memorable moment in MCC life. It was a great effort by the students who showed exemplary missionary discipleship.

If you would like to suggest any ideas on how you feel our faith formation at the College can continue to strongly grow in mission and service please do not hesitate to contact me through the office or on nevilleh@ww.catholic.edu.au.

Kind Regards and have a great weekend.
