The last fortnight has seen a few exciting things happen in the Careers area.

Year 12 Excursion

Firstly, All Year 12 students headed off to the VCE and Career Expo at the Caulfield Racecourse last Friday. 

This Expo is Australia’s largest careers and education event held each year with 170 exhibitors providing information on VCE, tertiary courses, study skills, career advice. All our Universities, TAFEs (and many private providers) were in attendance ready to be hit with thousands of questions from students from Years 9-12.  There were also many seminars on VCE subjects, career industries and study advice. 

It is so important that students from as young as Year 9 begin the important task of researching what is available to them regarding the industry they may want to pursue for their future direction and courses available to them. Open Days are an extension of this research and these are held on the weekends throughout August and September each year. As it is impossible to go to them all in Year 12 (especially if students have part time jobs on the weekends) It is recommended that students go to some open days in each year of their middle and senior years. 

Our Year 12 students embraced this opportunity and made good use of the facilities and information available to them. 

Our Champions

Another excursion involved 17 students from Years 9 and 10 who were introduced to the Monash Champions program. This day was filled with sessions on developing leadership, working creatively in a team and brainstorming marketing ideas. Our students were enthusiastic and delightful. Every Monash leader and facilitator commented on the beautiful behaviour, decorum and total sense of fun our students exhibited. They went into chocolate overload by being rewarded for their continual involvement and producing the best ideas. I look forward to seeing what our fabulous Champions will create throughout the year.
