Faith and Wellbeing Assistant Principal's Report

Year 10 and 11 Reflection Day Wednesday 16 May 2018
On Wednesday 16 May 2018 Nazareth will host a combined schools Reflection Day for Year 10 and 11 students with students from Mazenod College, Catholic Regional College and Avila College joining with the Nazareth College Year 10 and 11 Year levels to have over 500 students present to hear Genevieve Bryant (past student) and Jason Evert lead the day with some music, talks, sharing prayer, reflection and looking at relationships. It should be a great day.
Behavioural Expectations
This year we have set for the College the three Rs, Respect, Responsibility and Resilience as our behavioural expectations. It is a good thing for us all to ask ourselves the question about our behaviour towards other people in our community, at school in the yard, in the classroom, and on-line and reflect upon the three Rs. Is what I am doing respectful towards all people in our community? Am I taking responsibility for my actions?
We encourage parents as the primary educators of your children to also engage in conversation with your children discussing these expectations and what they look like when they are lived out both at school and at home. Sometimes people are hurt because we do not think of the impact of our words or actions on others and don’t treat them with the respect they deserve. We are seeing lots of examples of students living out these expectations and desire for the three Rs to be defining features of the behaviour in our school.
Nursing Home and Soup Kitchen Visits
Last week we had students representing our school at the Missionaries of Charity on Monday after school and a different group of students volunteering to serve at the Happy Hour at the Regis Village Nursing Home on Thursday after lunch. It is wonderful to see some students living out our Catholic Faith and the call to serve. There will be more opportunities to be a part of these activities throughout the Term and we look forward to more students enjoying this opportunity as the students did last week.

Wellbeing report
It is wonderful to see that slowly but surely word is getting around about our wonderful new Wellbeing Centre. Students are dropping in at lunchtime to chat, play games and relax. The Media Club has also used the facility to meet new friends and plan future award winning productions.
One of the issues that has been popping up recently amongst the students who have come to chat to myself or Ms Kol, is the topic of sleep. It seems that many students are not getting the amount they need to function at school in a focused and engaged way. Lack of sleep affects your mood, attention, memory and coordination. Attached is some basic information about sleep that might help.
