Discipline

Some parents struggle with knowing the best way to discipline their children.  Times have certainly changed!  How our grandparents disciplined or even spoke to their children is completely different to how you might communicate with your child.  In past years children were sometimes dealt with in a harsh way which produced anger, fear and rejection in children.  They were "seen and not heard" and expected to be completely obedient and if they weren't they were often beaten with a strap.

Children need discipline and boundaries in their lives and the best discipline leads to children learning self-management.  We reinforce this learning at school through our Play is The Way, Interoception and What's The Buzz programs.

Discipline is about being positive and encouraging good behaviour as well as stopping behaviour that you do not want your child/children doing.  Not always an easy task.

Discipline is about understanding the rules of the home, school and community and understanding what happens when the rules are broken.  It is about learning to be responsible.  For us as adults that might mean that when we break the law, like speeding, then the consequences will be a substantial fine.

We will talk more about discipline in further articles.

Parent Afternoon Tea will commence on Friday 16/6 from 2:30pm in the Conference Room (next to the Canteen).  I would love to see you there.  Come along and relax before you pick up your child/children from school.
