WELCOME TO TERM 2

Welcome back to Term 2. We hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break and holiday with family and friends. We are looking forward to an exciting term of learning for students with new and engaging units of inquiry. Also this term students will take part in: Year 5 & 6 camp, Year 1, 3 & 4 Swimming, Education week, Open Night, Grandparents & Special Friends  Day, as well as many other incursions and excursions to support their learning.

GEORGINA MANNING PARENT SEMINAR - APRIL 27

A reminder that Georgina Manning of Wellbeing for Kids will be presenting the seminar 'Peaceful Parenting, Peaceful Kids' on Tuesday April 27 at 7pm. The seminar will be held in the Manuka building at Milgate PS. 

 

Areas covered are:

  • Mindful Parenting strategies
  • Introduction to Mindfulness strategies to keep stress levels low
  • Positive psychology strategies to boost wellbeing
  • Slowing life down & being more in the ‘Flow’
  • Helping children manage their feelings
  • Mindful Play
  • Coaching children through their problems Importance of Self Care

EARTH DAY 22nd APRIL 

Thank you to everyone who helped celebrate Earth Day by bringing unwrapped food to school. It was great to see so many students bring ‘Nude Food’ as a way to reduce the waste. 

SCHOOL CANTEEN

Welcome to Hellen and Josh Christodoulou (Tasty Canteen), the new canteen provider. Hellen will provide lunch orders and counter sales for students and staff. A menu is available on the school website and online ordering is also available. Hellen has a commercial coffee machine and is happy to sell coffee to any parents in the morning each day if you would like to buy one before or after you drop your child at school. Josh is Hellen’s son and will be helping her out for the next few weeks. 

PLANTING OVER THE HOLIDAYS

Over the holidays, Julian from 4TW and his mother Trish popped up to the school and did some planting at the entrance on Landscape Drive. This was a lovely gesture and nice surprise for staff and students returning to school. Thanks Julian and Trish for taking the time to improve our school grounds. 

FREE DRESS DAY FRIDAY 30th APRIL

Next Friday the Junior School Council has organised a free dress day to raise money for Yooralla. We are asking that a gold coin donation be made on the day. 

 

MILGATE DADS & KIDS GROUP - TERM 2 EVENT 

Dads Event – Dads only

Wednesday 5th May

7:30-8:30pm

Manuka Building (Year 6)

 

This event is in Term 2 and is for dads only will be an opportunity to meet other dads from Milgate and hear from The Fathering project presenter, Rodney Eade.

 

Rodney Eade is a father to 6 children in a blended family and grew up in Tasmania before relocating to Melbourne as a 17 year old to play AFL. In his AFL career he played 259 games with Hawthorn and Brisbane, including 4 AFL premierships with Hawthorn. He was assistant coach for Brisbane and then North Melbourne and senior coach for 17 years including the Sydney Swans, Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast Suns. He has worked at Collingwood Football Club as Coaching Director then Football Operations Manager. Away from AFL Rodney established the organisation Facing Change which focuses on positive transformation and in 2019 he commenced at The Fathering Project. Rodney is passionate about seeing positive outcomes for children by having an engaged father figure in their lives.

 

It will be a great opportunity to bring dads together and gain some ideas of the ways in which we can make the Milgate Dads and Kids Group a fun and supportive environment. We hope to see you there.

FREE AUTISM WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS

South Morang

Early Days is a series of FREE workshops for parents, grandparents, and families of young children (0-7 years) who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis or who are going through the assessment and diagnostic process. This initiative is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services through the Helping Children with Autism package. The workshops are facilitated by Margaret Clancy who has many years of experience working with young autistic children and their families. Margaret will assist parents to understand the impact of Autism on their child and explore strategies to enable them to understand their child and family. ANZAC Day Badges and wristbands are available for students to purchase at school tomorrow.  JSC reps will bring them to the classrooms during the day.

Badges are $2 and wristbands are $3.
