Hi my name is Lizzie and I’m the 2021 Library Team Leader. I’ve been a member of the library team for the past 3 years and am still enjoying it. Along with students from Years 7 and 8, we’ve been making a display for the library for Term 2 (about reading) and putting up our annual Anzac Day display. There are lots of exciting new books on the shelves to enjoy - so get in at lunch or recess times and borrow. I’d like to finish by welcoming the new members to the team and hope that you enjoy it as much as I have!
Lizzie A. (Library Team Leader)
We have joined a new SLAV (School Library Association of Victoria) book review platform "Shelftalkers" which connects students who love books and reading, by "sharing written reviews with their peers...and encourage and engage young readers in reading and writing, beyond the classroom". Reviews will be sent into SLAV for their website and we will also receive forthcoming titles from publishers to be reviewed by our students who are then able to keep this copy.
The book reviews below have been provided by our Library Team students (and interested students) as examples and to share their own reading. If you are interested in providing book reviews and having them published in future newsletters, on our Library website, and/or on 'Shelftalkers' then please join us in the library.
Maximum Ride : Manga - Book 1 by James Patterson
Reviewed by Ricie (Year 7)
Fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, commonly known as Max lives with her 'flock' in an old house in the mountains living a hidden life. Away from humanity and the 'Erasers', a group of half-wolf half-people who want to take them back to the 'school'. The 'School' is an institute where the 'flock', Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel were turned from humans into genetically mutated hybrid experiments. This book is truly a work of art.
I give it a 4.5/5 star rating.
Untidy Towns by Kate O'Donnell
Reviewed by Lizzie (Year 9)
Untidy Towns is a gripping tale of a young girl , Adelaide, who has earned a place in an exclusive inner city boarding school. School has become boring and monotonous. She decides to jump on a train and heads back to her dusty home town. Her grandpa offers her a part-time job at the local historical society in exchange for her to finish Year 12 online. In the meantime she goes out and explores the town and bumps into the class clown. An unexpected friendship forms between Adelaide and Jarrod that soon forms into something a bit more than friendship. This is a gripping YA tale with a mix of romance, self discovery and friendship.
I give it a 5/5 star rating.
If you are interested in joining a lunchtime Chess Club (Tuesday lunchtimes) then please put your name down on the 'What's New'noticeboard in the Library.
Year 8 students, Karl and Gemma, are keen to have others join them and also are willing to teach beginners or challenge more experienced players. All welcome to try.
If you love reading, drawing or just talking about Manga/Anime then put your name down for our new club to be held in the library Wednesday lunchtimes - see notice on 'What's New' board in the library.
