Grade Three

Welcome to Term 2! It is so great to be back! We finished Term 1 with plenty of learning and fun and now we are excited to discover lots in term 2! During Term 1 our Setting up for Success program assisted us to establish an environment where our students feel welcome, accepted, secure and safe! We had fun discovering each other’s strengths and weaknesses and how to accept everyone as individuals! We look forward to working together, supporting each other and having fun as we continue our learning journey.
Literacy
In Literacy, our students have been learning about narrative and persuasive reading and writing. In reading sessions, students have been exposed to both fiction and non-fiction. Towards the end of the term students worked through the writing process to produce a published piece of work. It was fantastic to learn more about planning, drafting, editing and finally publishing.
Mathematics
In Mathematics we have been exploring mental computation strategies which is an ongoing and vital concept during all our Mathematics sessions. Every week we focus on a different strategy to ensure a comprehensive understanding of basic number facts and operations. We have recently begun to explore fractions which has been exciting and challenging. We look forward to discovering more as we jump further into our Maths adventure throughout the term!
Integrated
During our Term 1 integrated sessions we discovered valuable information about the First Fleet, Convicts and Australian History. Many activities were based around the lives of children of that time which proved to be both interesting and extremely thought provoking for our students. During the term we also discussed International Women’s Day and Harmony Week and we investigated a number of Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships activities.
This week we were lucky enough to visit Melbourne Zoo.
We attended an education session and we worked in small groups to discover and investigate endangered animals. It was an amazing day! We look forward to learning more about the animals of the world and why they are endangered.
